South Down

How long does it need to settle its been like two days and when i turned on the powerhead it blows up again... The glass is covered in a powder too.

It will keep doing it for a while. Even a month or so after it's all settled, once you stir up the sand there will still be a little cloud that'll be there for a few hours. My friends cleared up in 3 days, mine was about 2 but then I would stir it a bit just to get some cloudiness out of the way for later cleanings if I ever wanted to stir up the sand. I did'nt want to bother any of my inhabitants with another sand storm.

Hey Tpompton u got awsome frags. I

just did a 5.19 gallon cube southdown.

Check out my gallery

You can hasten it by packing down the sand with something flat so as to get the air out of the bed.

i think once it starts to get weighed down with a coating of bacteria, the cloud will settle down, not sure i think i read that here on RC somewhere.

The sand storm will definitely settle down as soon as it's all coated in bacteria. The fine particles are needed in the tank to help provide filtration, so you definitely want it in the tank - just be patient! My 150 had little dust storms whenever I moved things for the first month or so. Nothing now.....

I followed the 'no wash' advice on a recent thread here and I found the sandstorms were over in about 10 days. It stopped sticking to the glass about the same time.

I have southdown also, be patient, it will die down. Get a few cups from other tanks to get the bacteria going. You'll be fine.
