Southdown Alternative @ HD - Pulverized Limestone

I just picked some up from HD on Broadway in edmond. They've got an entire pallet still. I using it to try some DIY Rock for setting up a 42 and a 60 that are still empty.

I have always found it outside right against the wall of the building, IN THE FERTILIZER not with the sand. I is sold as a fertilizer to gardeners for correcting ph in soil. They sell it as a seasonal item (I think) so since the gardening season is ending you may want to grab some if your looking for it

I picked up two bags yesterday from HD. I got a sweet deal at $2 a bag, since they were damaged. I'm adding some to my DIY rock mix and when I upgrade tanks, I'll try adding some to my sand.

It has to cure for about 2-3 months, doing a combination of daily, weekly, and every other weekly water changes.

There is a HUGE thread on RC about DIY Live Rock, I'll see if I have it bookmarked still...

I'm going to test my ph at the beginning of week 5. The first batch I made has been soaking for just over two weeks. There is very little "crud" gathering at the top of the water now, so I'm anxious to see what the ph will be.

On the thread link I posted to my rock, I have a pic of the pulverized lime I'm using in my mix. Would this be ok for use in a sand bed?

The HD in Del City off Sooner Rd has it, as well as the HD in Edmond on Brodway and 15th

I just bought some at both of them in the last 2 weeks

Eddy are your making rock?

I have toyed around with it, and pretty happy with the results.

I think I would be much happier using white portland.

Its just such a messy process, but rewarding
