Spawning Coral Banded Shrimp

While I was cleaning the algea from the glass I was surprised to see one of my Coral Banded Shrimp perched at the top of the like rock. As I was just about to walk away from the tank it became clear to me why "she" was out in the open like that. She had positioned herself inline with the return flow from the sump, all of a sudden she started to flicker her leggs back and forth over her underside and started to release her babies into the stream. As they were carried away I wondered if I should try to catch them and see if I could raise them. Well they are so small I knew that I would cause more damge to my tank trying to catch them. Has anybody ever raised them any sucess?

From what I've heard and read, it's extremely difficult to raise any of the typical marine shrimps. Those that do raise them have very sophisticated setups to do so. BUT, they should continue to release eggs on a regular basis which is actually a great food source for your corals and other inhabitants in the tank.

If you only have on CBS I don't think the eggs are fertile. I believe they are sxually dimorphic (Male different from female) as opposed to cleaner shrimp which are hermaphrodites (any two will do)
