specify size of rock on order?

I just saw the sale on your Select Fiji Premium Live Rock and wondered if when ordering I can specify 3 larger pieces?

Or is it luck of the draw?

I just thought I had seen people post notes here that they had done that before but couldn't remember the end result.

Thank you for your post. We apologize, as we are unable to take requests for specific sizes of the live rock. The sizes of the rock that are shipped will vary with what is available in our holding facility. Should the pieces of rock you receive be too large, they can be resized with a hammer and chisel. The average size of the rock, which is shipped from our facility, ranges in size from 6ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ to 14ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚.

Yeah, that seemed to be a problem with two other posters..

They received what they called "very large pieces", one even called the ones she was sent "boulders".

Thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s one of the reasons I have been hesitant to order the live rock.

That's the risk you have to take when ordering online..

I thought I had seen that here before... I just didn't look back far enough I guess. Seems to me they always made right by the customer though.

I would be fine with boulders. I could always make them smaller, I just can't make softball sized rocks into something bigger.

hmmm, maybe some elmers wood glue and sawdust might help... duct tape perhaps?

Hi!
I bought some Lalo rock (30 lbs.) I was so excited because the description said they were the most interesting rocks with unique shapes, etc. I received a massive, unmanageable piece that was smooth, 3 shelfs (shape), and a couple of small pieces (probably totalling 4 lbs.).
I was in fact very disappointed because that large rock couldn't even fit into my tank! (45 gallon) I had to call someone I knew that had a chisel. I was then stuck with 2 pieces of smooth large rock that was basically straight. Not very unique in shape I say.
I did write an e-mail to bring that to their attention. No reply.

Here we go again...

I think the general consensus is to stay away from the live rock from the Drs./Live Aquaria site...

Everyone seems to be disappointed with what they get...

Just a follow up....Live Aquaria did contact me less than 1 day after I wrote about my experience. So, it looks like they are not perfect, but are willing to try and work things out. It also seems like they have a constant presence here to make sure people that have criticism are given a response.
I do admire that and am willing to give Live Aquaria another shot.

Actually I've ordered live rock from them um 4 times. Fiji, 2 Lalo, Nano. And all of it rocked. The first Lalo did have a bigger boulder size (like 16" x 8" x 12"), but it was pretty hollow with alot of holes all the way through and caves that the livestock loved.

It's a tough call between getting life and picking it out at LFS. I mostly ordered 1/2 my live rock for LA, than hand pick some pieces at the LFS to "round things out"
