Splendid Pintail Fairy Wrasse on DD today

I received my cf lanceolatus trio from Live Aquaria today. I've never seen them in person beforehand. I know they're a dwarf variant of fairy wrasses, but they still struck me as surprisingly small when I opened the bags today. It was a pleasant surprise as they were a nice contrast to my existing large fairies such as my labouti, lineatus, earlie, etc. They were more the size of flasher wrasses if that large.

Unfortunately, I don't think the trio traveled well and didn't seem to handle the stress well. I don't think they could've done a better job in packing them, but this is why I highly recommend Live Aquaria. They are truly a reputable and stand up company. Their communication was impeccable, and stand behind their livestock 100%. They've extended my 2 week guarantee and wanted to make sure I was completely happy with my purchase.

Yes they charge a bit higher than other companies, but I look at it as an additional insurance policy you're purchasing. The premium is worth my peace of mind. I hope your wrasses are acclimating well. I had a P. cyaneus from DD last week that unfortunately did not last more than an hour from unboxing. Still hoping another will show up on DD soon.

I bought one of the two on DD today. After seeing the pictures of the terminal males on Reef builders, I couldn't resist.

I plan to QT it for a month. Should I be concerned about using the standard Prazipro treatment?

Once the changes start, It takes about 1.5-2 months for large females to turn terminal male in my experience. It takes awhile for them to start going but once they start the change it doesn't take long. The tail starts developing color first and then the body. And then lastly the tail elongates.

I have a wild caught terminal male and a female turn terminal male both in separate systems. It's one species where home grown and wil caught are not too different, and homegrown males can look just as beautiful.

The cf is indeed the Philippines variant which is smaller in size. It's a dwarf pintail fairy wrasses (cirrhilabrus cf lanceolatus).

Sorry for the confusion, but I was referring to the C. cf lunatus (Philippines variant) vs. C. lunatus (described Japanese species). As Evolved mentioned, until they do DNA testing to confirm it is the same species, they will be listed as C. cf lunatus. Reef Builders has a thread showing the variants, plus hybrids

Where as the C. lanceolatus vs. C. cf lanceolatus just causes all kinds of confusion as they are completely different species. The only similarity is the shape of the tail.

I was looking at the rb article too...it was informative. Also what makes it difficult is that wrasses change colors on mood/mating/stress ect.. As one article wrote DNA testing would need to be done on each fish.

Marshall, others, and I muddied the waters here by also speaking about the couple Philippine lunatus wrasses which were also listed on DD yesterday.
However, the confusion in your statement lies with cf. lanceolatus and C. lanceolatus; cf. lanceolatus is NOT a regional variant of lanceoaltus, nor is it a "dwarf" subspecies. They are entirely different species with entirely different ranges.

Are you referring to the Lunate wrasse? I got my trio from you know who. I'm sure he can get them, if DD has them. Seeing how they both use QM.

Congrats Wayne and I'm glad to hear you were able to obtain some. However, I must clarify something a bit. These are NOT a dwarf species of anything, they are their own unique species of the Cirrhilabrus genus. They're not as small of some other Cirrhilabrus species, for that matter. If you've ever seen juvi C. johnsoni wrasses, you'd agree with me. Those are certainly smaller than any flasher you've ever seen!

Congrats Wayne and I'm glad to hear you were able to obtain some. However, I must clarify something a bit. These are NOT a dwarf species of anything, they are their own unique species of the Cirrhilabrus genus. They're not as small of some other Cirrhilabrus species, for that matter. If you've ever seen juvi C. johnsoni wrasses, you'd agree with me. Those are certainly smaller than any flasher you've ever seen!

I have always admired LiveAquaria/Divers Den's business model with customer service at its forefront. It really disturbs me to read that there are several people getting these Divers Den fishes before they were even available to the public. I thought (Kevin Kohen hope you can clarify) it is a first come first served basis. I am deeply offended as a long time customer to be "placed in the back of the line" so to speak. I may not have spent the amount of money certain "people" have spent, but that shouldn't matter. Speaking with some of my local fish buddies, we are all offended by this move from LiveAquaria.
No offense to you Hunter/Wayne congrats to you guys for being in the "club".

Hey Bryan, I don't think there's any preferred treatment or special club for some hobbyist. I don't know about Hunter, but I inquired to Kevin specifically for these fish and I think since there were multiple available he was going to list on the site, he sold mine to me without me having to wait.

In addition, before I bought my CB Clarion and was asking a million questions about it, he specifically said that he would have to list this fish on the site to give everyone an equal chance of buying it.

Essentially the same story here. The only additional layer for me was I had bugged Tony Vargas about this fish nearly a year ago (when he was at my home to photograph my tank), and he insisted it would only be sold to me through a retailer and not directly from him as a wholesaler.

And I'd also like to point out, both C. cf. lanceolatus which were listed yesterday did not sell instantly; there were on the site for nearly an hour before either sold.

I don't know that fishnerd is specifically referring to the C. cf. lanceolatus being sold to those with connections before being offered publicly, or the fact that it happens at all with any fish. Guessing the latter, as there has been a lot of talk lately on this forum about going through Kevin directly to get something special.

As you can now see in my situation, I've been working on obtaining this particular species for several years (prior to ever meeting Tony Vargas, for that matter). It's not a matter of special treatment or being in "the club".

There was once another fish Kevin Kohen had acquired on his own accord that I inquired about in the past, and (like Wayne) I was told it would be listed on DD to give everyone equal opportunity. While I was informed what the price would be set at, I received no other special treatment. (Sadly, the fish never came to be and perished before it ever came to market)

If you were offered a DD fish prior to it being available to everyone, I would consider that special treatment. I have no skin in this game but I'm pretty sure I've seen Kevin in the past say they only sell DD fish on a first come basis thru their website.
