I recently moved a clam to a better viewing location and I noticed a brown sponge the size of a dime on it. I seem to remember someone stating that they should be removed??? if so - how?

I had one person respond, who said that the sponges can sometimes secrete an acid to break down shell and rock so I should remove it. Have you witnessed sponges on clams for any length of time? Mine usually extends it's mantle more than this, so it isn't a problem . . . at least not yet.

hwynboy, I remember you, thanks for the offer on the skimmer awhile back- I was born in honolulu in 56 (was not a state then) thanks for you input- I do trust it!! Ronsf, I have never had this happen to me before and guess I panic when one of my "babies" seems to have a problem!!! Shell on your pic looks more like a maxima to me! Same clam I have sponge on- my sponge is 1/3 that size.
It has developed the prominent scutes you see in the picture over the last year. The shell was pretty smooth when I bought it as a "crocea" from Tropical Paradise. Except for the raised scutes it looks crocea-like, but I understand that they are the more difinitive test, so you may be right. It completely lacks the s-curve in and out of other maximas.Charlie Davidson said:

Wish I had bought a rodi instead of just a ro. What do you feed your tank- sps-clams- how often?

Little bit off subject but- do you think- If I remove the 250w in center and replace with a 400w it will cause problems? have you switched before?
