sponges and zoanthids

My tank has been established for quite some time now and I've noticed within the past 6 months sponge in my tank is growing rampant. The sponge appears to be drowning out some of my zoanthids. I've read that the sponge and zoanthid have a symbiotic relationship in the wild so why would this sponge cause my zoas to die?

Has anyone had experience with sponges drowning out their zoas?

some sponges will case Irritation and over grow the zoa's best to remove them. picture might help.

to remove or kill the sponges you can FS dip them and remove as much as you can
