I have had my Clarki clowns for well over 2 months now and just noticed that the smaller one has a beige/tan spot on one of his white stripes??? My water reading are all good...nitrite 0, nitrate 0, ammonia 0, ph is 8.2 salinity 1.024... BTW he is eating like a pig and nice and fat as is the other clown and they have doubled in size! my tank is over 8 months old and all other fish are doing great. I fed all them this morning and they all ate!!! There is no weird behavior on the clown. any clues on what this could be??

Heather

Dan......thanks for responding..no it is not raised, and they have already changed there color to dark brown...I have seen this before on my tru percs (they died) I have not had any new additions and I keep up with the w/c every week! Im kinda scared this is the same thing that took my other clowns =(

Could it be a fungus? I dont hv a QT tank as of yet, but plan on it SOON! but in the meantime what can I do?

Heather

I don't have a lot of experience with diseases. You should definately post to the diseases forum. If it were mine I'd go out and get a cheap 10g glass tank and a heater ASAP. You'll also need pics to get good advice.

It seems that people who have the most success treat for the most likely immediate disease/parasite/injury and brook simultaneously.

BTW I have tried to post a pic using photobucket and it makes my pics sooooo small and if I make em bigger RC wnt let me cause they say the file is too large ARGH!

Dan I heard that Mardel Maroxy Saltwater/Freshwater Medication
will work for clowns...I have inverts and lots of corals...whats your opinion?

Heather

Here it is, I can't really make out the spot but I emailed some suggestions to get a better pic. You can email them to me if you get any more.

Peopl I have spoken too think it is a fungus and can be treated with various meds...only thing i have inverts and corals and no QT tank. Do you or anyone have any ideas how to treat a fungus?

Heather

If it's just a discoloration and no bumps, my guess would be it's getting stung by a coral. Have you seen it hosting in anything? The marks will clear up on their own if that's what it is.

B

Hi B...They have already gone through the color change from yellow to deep/dark brown. and as for hosting, they seem to linger around the frogspawns and hammer also i added a zoo awhile back...I know someone has seen/had this before. I would really love it if someone could help me, I LOVE my clowns and would hate to see them perish......we are diligent with W/C and keep the tank really clean and don't overfeed...any thoughts would be great!

Heather

Can you get better pics? Without them, it's really hard to diagnose but it sounds like he's getting stung by corals.

My clowns went thru lots of black spots from the shrooms they hang out in. Luckily I was searching on here at a time when the search was almost always available (note to self: get a membership already...lol) and found lots of info on "black spots clown".

I know how you feel about your clowns but treating him before really knowing what it is could cause more damage. I was in your shoes with my first pair of clowns and tried treating for "strange behavior" and ended up stressing them out so bad that ich quickly took over. Come to find out, clowns are just strange little buggers sometimes.
