Spots on clownfish?

I have just recently noticed some dark spots appearing on my clownfish. Is this just a natural color change or is something else going on here? Everything else about him seems normal.

I greatly appreciate your help!

Hi Dave,

What is your clownfish hosting in?

More then likely it is being stung by whatever its hosting in and his body is reacting; it called Melanism.

you can keep an eye on it just to make sure it's nothing more severe like black ich, but looking at the pics it looks to be Melanism.

He will be fine. :)

Best,

HB,
I hope you are right. Right now it is not hosting in anything. I had him in a QT tank for about 5 weeks and he has only been in my display tank for about 2 weeks now. I have a BTA, torch coral and frogspawn sitting in there for him. He hasn't had any interest yet.

DId the spots just occur when you added her to the tank?

even if its not hosting yet, it still might be 'testing' or swimming around or through the differnt Euphylliids you listed, which can sting her.

I put the BTA, the torch coral and some zoos in the tank about a week ago. The spots started appearing about 2 days ago.

Ya, I would keep an eye on it. I am pretty sure by the pic that it is Melanism. Probably investigating.

You can read up on black ich, but this really looks nothing like it.

=)

It took a couple of days but the spots did disappear. Every once in a while new ones will show up and then dissappear and day or two later. I think it is just getting them from rubbing up against my zoas. They never seemed to cause him any harm and he continues to appear perfectly healthy.
