Spray Bars

Anyone use a spray bar for a return. I thought about using a loc line spray bar as a return, that way I have several little output along the tank to disperse flow.

the return on my 29 build is gonna be all over the top & be a combination of (2) regular loc-line returns at the back & a modified version of Calfo's around the top manifold

for my return i am coming 1.5" from the pump to the bottom of the tank. there will be a t-fitting there going to each back corner w/ another t-fitting.

the "inner" each of these be reduced to 3/4" & go up & over to the loc-lines in the back (drilled over the tank w/ anti-siphon holes). the "outer" of each will be reduced to 3/4" & go up & over to the inside front w/ a t-fitting for input. out of the t-fitting will be pipe that runs down the side & front w/ t-fittings in each for loc-lines in various directions

for the ones on the sides, i'll probably use the flow accelerators i have & point them at the back rock wall to help keep it from getting detrius built up there :)

something like the following pic. green is the overflow box, red are the sprayers, grey are the rear over the top loc-lines

I was thinking of using one of them, but putting some spacers in between the locs with outlets to give more space between them, since my tank is 5ft long.

I have seen them in use. They do work, but often they are great at moving surface water, but you get into issues down low. SO I would modify a few outlets to run deep and have locline to adjust direction, ect..

One other thing I would suggest is adding a valve to each output to adjust different areas for flow. It also can be used to allow you use of a slightly smaller pump if you wanted.

Just an opinion.
