Man I hope that black tang is still available.
I kind thought that they should be independent of the main system, otherwise you would be introducing whatever your trying to stop/cure into main DT. I want to set up a quarantine tank for new arrivals, and it would be a lot easier if I could tie it into the main filtration, but I don't want what I'm trying to catch get in the DT.

Good question. I have wondered the exact same thing!
Here is my "plan" I am going to have two large DT attached to the same massive life support system, but the smaller DT will be completely isolatable with a few ball valves. Then I will have a canister filter on stand by when I feel like the smaller DT needs to act as a QT for a while.
I'm planning on the same type of set up. My sump room is in the basement, so a turn of a valve will include the QT tank via a manifold from the main return line. I will be able to drain it or return to the sump whichever with the turn of another valve. All with no additional pumps
Now if I need to isolate it from the system, I think I'll incorporate an old bio-ball filter system I still have laying around somewhere, as Andrew had suggested but I will need to add a pump to it

week ago i swapped out radium ushio 20k combo 400 each for radium 400 hqi and a 250 uhio 14k much whiter but with massive blue from radiums and t5s and vho its the just perfect hint of sunshine i run the 250 ushio 14k from 1 to 5 and radiums from 11 to 7 corals really like it and i beleive gives them nore 550 and violet spectrum than just radium or combo of the 20ks i am really shocked that more people dont outfit reflectors with 2 bulbs each . we cut out the top and out in fans for the heat but now we can create any coloe we like double radiums , mix of 20k bulbs or some mix of blue and white
