sps and anemone's

question: do anemone's sting SPS's? if so do they kill them or just slow the growth, untill the anemone moves on?

Hello,
As i understand it anemones will sting any coral they come into contact with. Is your moving around the tank or is it stinging something nearby?

They will sting SPS corals around them. From what I have seen, the SPS just doesn't grow in that direction anymore. I have never seen the anemone kill the SPS entirely.

The anenome will eventually kill the SPS. It will take a while though. At the least the SPS loses color and growth slows. Even from a small RBTA.

I agree totally with Phil. My RBTA kept moving around to sting my sunset monti. It kept stinging it so much that the sunset was losing the battle. Before that he had killed a purple haze and a pokerstar monti. I ended up putting a large purple digi colony and a large elkhorn colony around the RBTA so that he had to kill them first before he could get to my sunset. Since then he hasn't moved.

okay, thanks for all the info guys. My anemone isn't moving around right now, and I have kept everything from that side of the tank (except from xenia). I just wanted to ask the question to see if I could put some within its reach.

I have a little tiny one, its the one that split about a month ago. I'd say its about 4" across. I'll see if I can get it off its rock. I'll let you know.
