Sps BB tank

I have heard before that if you are running a bare bottom that you shouldn't have macro algae in the tank. Is that b/c it exports too many nutrients, which takes them away from the corals?

I am thinking about removing my chaeto to see what happens with some of my sps colors. What do you think?

Thank you,
Drew

I believe it's because a bb should not have enough nutrients to support macro. With strong flow and heavy skimming you should be able to remove the waste before the macro has a chance to export.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm setting up a bb but would still like a fuge for critter populatipon but don't think it's appropriate.

That's correct. Use the macro as a gauge, with BB you should get your nutrients down low enough that the macro will die off.

Hey Drew, I've heard a lot of the BB guy's are going back to using sand b/c of bland colors in their SPS. You ever think about getting some sand in that pie shaped tank!

This should not start the obligatory DSB vs. BB debate

Which method U have succes now ? I will stick to it, just upgrade your equipment. In the past they said ..." man, U cant keep SPS w/ the Plenum " I prove them wrong, my tank is pretty close to 7 yrs. now
