SPS Dominated 47G Reef

Hi Sahin, I still have some issues with my tank. Large colonies became small frags. It will take awhile for me to post some decent pictures.
Your water parameters and light setup must be close to perfect. You can make brown ugly corals to such gorgeous ones in a short time.:thumbsup:

I have a Nikon D5100 with Tokina 100mm macro. However, my coral pictures are not as good as yours -- must be the photographer's fault.:sad1:

Many thanks. Best colours I've ever seen in SPS have been with T5's. I dont use white LED's, instead rely on the two daylight T5's for the non blue part of the spectrum. So shimmer is next to nothing when all the T5's are on.

I've been collecting for almost a year. Its hard to find specific corals in the UK. You just have to drive around lots and be lucky too.

PS, I made a thread in the Zoa forum. :)
You won't regret the fixture! T5s are great and provide the very best for intensity/PAR/spectrum combinations.

Well, at least you have those great corals to play with!!
Thank you for posting there!!

Grandis.

Very nice tank and corals Sahin...they are just beautiful...
Can I request for your FTS...?

And what is your current filtration?
Thank you for sharing...

I have no idea how so many beautiful acros that should be in my tank have ended up in yours instead Sahin :p ............ the wait was certainly worth it mate, your acros all look super healthy and the colors are awesome :thumbsup:

I have a major thing for pink acros, this one prompts me to say in the nicest possible way - you bastard Sahin..... i was content with my SSC but now you've ruined all that and i have to start looking for something that comes close to this stunning piece. :eek1:
It's obviously not of Aus origin otherwise it'd be brown at finding itself in a Poms tank........ :lol2:

Btw mate, your skills with the camera and the color rendition is simply amazing, easily some of the most true to life pics i've ever seen - outstanding :)

Thanks mate. I spent many days driving around places trying to locate the nice pieces. Believe it or not, quite a few pieces were turd brownouts that I knew had potential and bought them. Anyway, you are spoilt silly with all the Australian SPS...We have crappy Monti's etc...I dont even like them. I love my branching Acros. :inlove:

LOL. To be called a bastard by you is quite a privilege! :lolspin: You have amazing coloured acros...I would love to have all your beautifully coloured acros and run Radiums.

Anyway, that pink acro was one of the brownouts I bought. Was only £20 about $29US...but its a colony size coral so I bought it. The guy said it doesnt colour up in his tank. So sold it to me for cheap. This is what it used to look like:

But, give it another 3 months...as long as my water quality improves...I see some green at the base now and the tiniest bit of lime green on the tips...cant capture on camera...THIS WILL BE BETTER THAN even my Strawberry Shortcake.

Thanks. I try and capture the colours as I see them.

I would only be deluding myself if I boosted the colours by yanking up the saturation. Such actions gives a false impression to newbies and that causes a whole loads of trying this potion and that potion. - Also, when my UK reefkeeper mates come round and dont see these colours I would feel pretty stupid and a cheat.

I wont lie: I put a lot of effort into this tank. It has taken a year to get the tank to this level...even then I still have some'#;
brown SPS. But as long as everything goes in the right direction, in another 6 months I should have some beautiful colours in at least 99% of my acros.

Looking good Sahin!

Absolutely beautiful Sahin.

Thanks guys. Means a lot coming from you guys. :D

Thanks for the compliment. an FTS will turn up soon enough...not just yet. Bare bottom tank + Frag City = UGLY TANK. LOL.

My current parameters are as follows:

PO4=0.04ppm sometimes rises to 0.06ppm; working on this one slowly.

NO3=2ppm. Pretty happy with that.

Alk= 8dKH

Ca=420

Mg=1300

K+=400ppm, was as low as 290ppm...corals have improved in health since bringing this up. Used Potassium Chloride salt to increase the level.

pH=8.3 usually; this one is not a big deal to be honest.

I maintain Alk, Ca and Mg using Fauna Marin Balling Lite Solutions. I dont dose the extra elements from Fauna Marin.

I carry out 10% water changes per week...some weeks 20%.

Bubble Magus NAC6 skimmer. No sand; BARE BOTTOM tank. Only liverock for filtration.

My sump has nothing other than the return pump, the skimmer and a Phosban reactor with GFO. Nothing else. No fancy potions. Its as simple as that. The rest of the equipment is in my signature.

Hope that helps.

Looks very nice. I like your simple approach, and look forward to seeing how the corals progress...and I understand about how you feel providing a FTS when corals are young...

+1 Wish everyone did this :), though I imagine, some have a genuinely hard time capturing colors...but those that provide an honest color rendition... :thumbsup:

Sahin, whats your lighting schedule. Im currently running a ATI Hybrid Powermodule so would be interested to see how you run your LEDS along side your T5's

Awesome selection of frags....forward to seeing your tank and scaping.
Many thanks mate.

can we see your new full tank shots with these corals in it? these photo looks awesome, very nice
Many thanks. FTS will be up soon, just want a little more growth on the corals. :)

Many thanks. Yeah, when the corals are too small tanks dont look good at all.

No problems mate. :D

Wow....Beautiful tank and SPS. Your closeup pictures are crystal clear. Do you have sand at bottom or a bare bottom tank?

Many thank for the compliment; your corals are very colourful and you have a beautiful tank, so I feel quite happy for the compliment. I hope one day my tank will be grown up like yours. :)

I use a simple DIY top down viewer and the Tamron 90mm Macro lens...this lens produces beautifully sharp photo's; perfect for SPS coral photography.

My tank is bare bottom. Over the years I've ultimately found that this is the easiest way to control nutrients...BUT tank looks horrible for at least a year or more until the SPS are grown quite a lot and there are some corals on the bottom to improve the ugly glass bottom look and break up the sterile look.

Speaking of sterile...I have NO way as much pods and worms as any of my sanded tanks...the sand definitely increases the biodiversity.
