SPS Dominated 47G Reef

Very nice photos.

If your forest fire montipora overgrows and becomes surplus to your requirements, then I would not mind a small frag or two on a paid basis.

Wow sahin brilliant colours and your photograpy is exceptional! Love that Orange Koala Passion Acro! I'll have to find a koala down in Aus and hit him up for a frag :lmao:
Thanks Scotty. Not happy with the photo work; I have a 10 year old Nikon DSLR...noise is pretty bad on it. Need to pick up something newer.

Ummm i dunno what to say really Sahin.......... just stunning my friend, both the colors and the photography.
That pink milli looks just like the one i killed recently lol - kind of electric pink looking if you know what i mean, love that one buddy :)

Thanks Biggles. If you as my mentor and fellow Tank War enemy like the corals, then I'm happy. :p

Sweet corals sahin!!

Nice photo work too

Thanks for checking out my thread. Thanks for the compliment. :)

Going to post another pic or two in a few mins... :)

WOW Sahin those corals are amazing and your photography isn't too shabby either:D. I think we have a real battle royal here:)
Glad you like the pics. :)

Sahin, this is a deliberate act of provocation in Tank Wars :blown:, just you wait :p

Beautiful pics, Sahin, the photography is top notch . All the acros look great, I have no clue what "browning" you're moaning about :p. If possible, do you remember what the NO3/PO4 levels are at now?

Thank you Bello. Yes, the Acros photographed look ok, but what I am not too keen on photographing is the brown turds! :D

Wow!!! That Orange Koala Passion is amazing.
Thanks. The Orange Passion is my best coloured Acro. My Granulosa and Pink Millepora come close, but this one just loves my tank for some reason and looks superb. :)

Sahin what camera are you using to get those pics?

I am using a 10 year old Nikon D70 SLR...:sad2: Would love to have a Nikon D700 but no way can I afford that. After all the tank related purchases it just isnt going to happen. :( I'm going to try and pickup a newer budget end Nikon DSLR by the end of the year...hopefully that will get me a little better quality shots.

Those are some beautiful coral Sahin. Thanks for the eye candy fix.
No problem, glad you liked the photos.

lookin great man! Love that pink mili!
Thanks man. I took an up close macro shot of it, will post up soon.

Thank you for the compliment. I'll be posting a couple more pics in a while. :)

Wow. And that Orange Koala Passion Acro ... omg.

I am SO glad I found this piece. Colours in my photo are like 99% accurate. In fact, the blue tips are a much stronger blue than shown in the photo. :)

Hey Bulent, I already frag that ForestFire twice this year. First time I fragged it, was a large colony the size of my hand. I gave it to Paul at Advanced Aquarium Consultancy. Its just starting to get the green on the tips in his tank...I saw it a few weeks ago. I also fragged a decent sized frag about a couple of months ago for a buddy.

It will be ready to be fragged in a month or two...but because I snapped off the main branches, its got lots of small new branches. I can always snap them off for you and you can glue together and it will join into a nice colony within a month or two.

Thanks for the compliment.

If possible, do you remember what the NO3/PO4 levels are at now?

Last known PO4 and NO3 values are: 0.03ppm (Elos/Merck HiRes Kit) and 0.2ppm(Salifert). That was tested 5th April.

I will test in a couple of days and let you know. I blasted the rocks today and lots of detritus has been suspended, so taking a measurement now is not suitable.

Excellent. I will be heading down your way late June or the beginning of July. Perhaps I will give you a shout then...

Thanks very much.

Update regarding tank:

I worked on the tank a lot today. Over 5 hours actually. I just thought I hadn't given the tank enough care over the past few months and really wanted to give things a boost, especially after the recent Alk drops etc. :headwallblue:

So, today I got some filter floss, stuffed this inside a 7inch 200micron filter sock and then stuffed that inside a 7inch 100micron filter sock...:wildone:

Then I put the MP10's at 100% and started to baste the rocks like crazy every 10 minutes for like 2 hours...The amount of crap that came out the rocks was unbelievable.

No amount of pumps/barebottomed systems etc is going to pull everything out...detritus will always find its way into the tiny hole/nooks and crannies etc etc.

Anyway, I then proceeded to run each MP10 at 100% at a time with the other switched off. This causes yet more detritus to come out due to the pattern of flow around rocks etc having changed. Did this for like half an hour or more whilst continuing the basting.

I then got out my glass scraper with blade attachment and scraped the 4 glass clean.

After this, I snipped a few corals here and there to keep the coral warfare down.

I then dosed KZ Coral Snow to let the skimmer pick that out along with the minute particles that get through the 100micron filter sock contraption. I just find the KZ Coral Snow does help remove some of the yellowing compounds.

Once I dosed the KZ Coral Snow, I put both MP10's on full blast again and let everything run until the skimmer had picked out enough that I could see what I was doing in the tank.

At this point I shut off the MP10's and removed 20% of the the water whilst siphoning any detritus that had settled on the bottom and in low flow areas etc.

I highly recommend blowing the crap out of the rocks regularly and catching it all in a filter sock. It does go some way in helping to keep the system clean.

The filtersock with the filterfloss is still in the tank. I will remove it before going to bed.

I'm cleaning some GAC now, and I will place this in the sump tomorrow and leave in there for a few days to remove the remaining bit of yellowing from the water.

Oh and in between doing all this extensive tank maintenance, I was browsing on here.

Thats perfect. I wont frag the Forest Fire for anyone else, so should get some decent growth during that time. :)

So, here are a few more pics I took. This will most likely be the last for a while as I am very busy every weekend for the next 3-4 weeks.

First up is the Granulosa. This piece is looking better and better as it grows. Should be a stunning piece in another 3-5 months.

This coral has nice blue tips, but you can see that the base which used to be a lot more green, has browned out a bit.

Random smooth skinned piece.

This Tort is really starting to take off growth wise. Cant wait to see this piece in a colony size. :)

And finally a closeup on my Pink Millepora.

Awesome photo's and great colors on those acro's. Do you find the red planet changes color a lot? Mine seems to hold steady at a nice pinkish/red but I don't get the green base like some do. Anyway, volley number one has been fired, well done.:uzi:

Sahin,

What PAR is your Acropora granulasa receiving?

I have this tiny frag in my tank:

P1060079circled_zpsad15115f.jpg

Do you think it is an A. granulosa?

It is under around 200 mmol PAR (or perhaps a little less) at the moment, but if I placed it under higher PAR, it would get really pale.

Cheers

If there weren't any polyps extension, I would say that you took your recent pictures out of the water. Sahin!!! Your water clarity, corals and pictures are amazing!!!
