SPS + DSB + FLOW = Dune?! Help

So I have 2 x 6100 is 5'x3' tank, and I can't for the life of me position them so they don't create huge sand dunes.. Has anybody here figured out this mystery life?! I know there are some of you out there with SPS and DSB how do you get keep your flow up w/out the dunes!

No controller, but I turned them down to 50% output on the box... Which seems like a waste of a perfectly good 4000gph tunzee :)

three things:

Getting a controller as has been stated.

A mature deep sand bed is less likely to stir up than a new DSB.

Place rocks in positions where current channels and blows sand out of the area. This will deflect flow and hold the sand in the area.

Again, just to reiterate, careful placement is the key. I've got a 4' long tank and it took me about a week of fiddling to get it right. I've got a 6100 and a 6000 and a 3-5 inch deep sand bed. The controller alternates between the two, but the 6100 does blast at full power.

I did, however, use the rocks to my advantage, and keep the tunze higher up in the aquarium.

Sandbed is also very fine southdown. Don't worry, you'll get it eventually. :)

Thats why I went to a barebottom tank and will be adding a remote DSB in the near future........happy SPS need flow, and sand doesn't like flow......you may be at the point of choosing happy corals or sand........I love not worrying about it now!!!

Thanks for the input! I'm a bit light on the rock side so I have alot of "open" areas which can create dunes..

As far as Barebottom, been there.. Not really my thing at this time.

I have the same problem. I have 4 tunzes in a 240g tank. and even with flow turned all the way down I still get a sandstorm and dune effect. If I raise their level too high, they will frequently suck down air from a surface vortex and spew it out into the tank. My tank is 24" high, but even with the tunzes at the very top running at lowest speed, I still get sand dunes. I honestly don't know how others were able to get around this problem because I have tried everything.
