sps growth under t5's

Definitely more cash, but worth it. A 6x39 ATI is 740, 6x54 is 800, as compared to a 8x54w Tek for 530 (prices are with bulbs included from Reef Geek).

mcliffy2,
corect me if im wrong, but dont t5 bulbs last nearly twice as long as mh?
so that s 180$ a year for t5's vs. 400+$ a year MH. that ectra cash will go to frags for me:D

oh ps: keep the pics coming!

.Shadowramy,
do you have any comparison pics between mh and t5?
so far this is the first coloration complaint i have heard, i thought the main diff was lack of shimmer

and can the simmer be retained by supplemental led's? just a thought.

wow mcliffy2 that is a price jump. any one wanna sell me one used? :)

so ianiwane, were you using cpu fans or what?

does any one have any par ratings on the tech vs ati pm?

i know its a little much to ask for but if anyone feels up to it i think it would be very pertanit info.

oh and pics are always nice:D

I was using one of the 4 fan units on a 6 bulb fixture.

Downfall is that you need a rimless tank for it to clip on and it was a bit loud. I am much happier with my sfiligoi but with the right cooling the teks can be pretty efficient. Also from what I know it is most important to cool the end with the label. For some reason that is the only spot that really matters when cooling a t5 bulb.

t5 spacing

t5 spacing

If I go retrofit instead of fixture how far apart can the bulbs be spaced? I was thinking either 4 or 6 bulbs over 18", which?
If the ballasts are remote, and teh hood vented, is active cooling over the bulbs still necessary?

Grim Reefer did the comparison:
A Tek's PAR was 153
A PowerModul's PAR was 302

Do you know if he did any tests while trying to actively cool the tek fixture?

wow thanks james,

were they compairable fixtures it both 6x49 or what?

it would be really impresive if the tech was 8x54 and the ati was 6x54.

oh and lets see some pics. :D

james that is an awsome tank.

Ty1e i think szymon's thread was the one i saw awhile ago that actual made me start realisticly thinking about t5 lighting in the first place.

thanks for the replys guys.

oh and i still want to see more growth pics of some coral under t5 i guess i just cant get enough! :D

Thanks Tucker.

I can easily say that my PowerModul is the best piece of equipment I ever bought as it gave me the best results.

wow it looks like this tech 120 build will literaly break the bank for me..LOL.. thanks for the advice guys.

any one else lingering out there with some pics under t5's ? they dont have to be as established as those allready posted. common guys i am giving you all a chance to show off what your t5's can do! :D

james,
really the single best piece of equipment?
what kind of skimmer are you using? i dont want to turn this thread into a skimmer war or anything just curious..

Tucker,

I'm running a Tunze 9020 skimmer. Obviously you cant have a nice reef w/o the other crucial equipment and the ability to maintain good and stable water chemistry. Once you have met those prerequisites then lighting plays a huge role in growth and colors IME.
