Hi, very glad to find this forum.
I have got some 10 different frags of nice branching colorful SPS frags. Never had SPS before, and really do not want them to brown up or die. Please help with quick tips how to keep them healthy.
I have a 120G established tank with 30G sump. 2x 250W MH phoenix 14K HQI. About 100 lb live rock.
params are:
salinity 1.025
Ca 420
Alk 9
Mg 1100
pH 8.2
Nitrate 20
There are two big tangs in the tank, yellow and powder brown. I feed them dry food (formula one) twice a day and nori.
There is a substantial algae bloom on sides and back glass. Caulerpa in sump growth slowly (12 hrs day reversed photoperiod).
I am changing it to chaeto. No phosban reactor. Should I get it? I am planning bionic supplement and Mg supplement.
What will it take to sustain SPS in good health without browning them?
Thanks!

Raise your mag above 1300 test your phos and lower your nitrates is what I would do. And research til your eyes bleed about sps pests.

Lighting is good. Like Piper said increase mag to 1300 and lower No3. Everything else looks good, just try to keep everything as stable as possible. A good oversized skimmer, ATO and automated dosing makes life easier and helps with stability.

you should run gfo & carbon too to mentain good quality of your water, as for feeding 3x possible & you got a lot of sps you need to keep your nutrients a bit higher as well good water movement. sps needs a lot water flow, seems your light really enough to hold a tank for 120g & a good skimmer. keep your cal 400-450ppm, alk 8.2 or 140ppm hanna checker atleast, phos o.o, nitrates it doesn't really have to be at .0 reading corals needed a bit nitrates to grow =)

I’d recommend setting up a quarantine tank and QT everything that is wet that goes into your display. Not doing so is like playing Russian roulette.
