SPS Targeted Feeding Macro Video Experiment

Sounds like you adding too much of everything too fast. When you feed pappy do you see any reaction from your Sps ?

One would think based off of what I'm feeding I do feed too much. However, I've being dosing the Zeovit products for some time and the reef chili for a couple months. I started the pappone this week, so I don't think I'm going to fast on the food just yet.

I've started slow with the pappone, with just 3 mL every couple days. The two times I've does I have seen a reaction when I feed. I can physically see the polyps retract and catch particles, similar to the videos posted early on in this thread. So I hope that the pappone is directly giving the corals some food via their polyps and by raising nitrate and phosphate to higher levels.

When I achieved ULNS, all my corals lost a bit of color. In my case, I achieved ULNS by mistake, trying to fight bryopsis, but when corals had light color, I panicked, did research, and found zeo products.
I came to the conclusion that zeo products are very powerful. First night I dosed coral vitalizer, 4 drops in 80 gallons of net water, next day I had algae on the glass. At 3 drops, green slime algae started to grow on LR. Now I am dosing 2 drops. Corals are not bothered by this decrease.
I still have 1 SPS (purple bonsay) with light color, but the rest are more colorful (red to purple, green to yellow) and I see them branching.
I stopped dosing anything else. I only put coral vitalizer (now 2 drops/2days), amino acids(1 drop/2days) and coral snow(3ml/week). I would dose anything else with zeo, you might have a brown or green algae outbreak.

How were your coral colors before trying to fight byropsis and before the ULNS took place? One would also think that some algae would start to breakout but I've been feeding reef chili pretty heavily for a few months with no ill effects. I probably have to clean the glass every couple days, but that's normal. I'm hoping that with the pappone my corals will finally get the nutrients they want. I've been testing my nutrients the past couple days and they're still low. However, I will monitor them to ensure I'm not overfeeding. I do believe that with my skimmer and zeovit reactor, the system strips nutrients pretty quickly.

I had dark colors before ULNS. Take a look at the pictures no, with zeo for about 2-3 weeks

Notice the purple areas, and before ULNS and zeo, brown area.

A little light in color, but great PE.

Notice the dark color middle area and very light growth with ULNS.

This could take from weeks to months.

Hey guys does this loom like the right size and type of food I use to make the pappone? I got it at the dc seafood fresh market. The clams are huge and the shrimp are small. I am not sure if these shrimp will work, let me know please!

Do I really use 5 of each? The shrimp are so small and the clams are so big. Which algaes do you guys use?

I picked up a bottle from the vitamin shop of Hawaiian stuff. Whipping the blender out soon, looking forward to feeding this stuff.

Turned out ok looking, it got warm while blending it. Not sure how warm it has to get to "cook" but I am hoping I did ok.

Hi guys!
I'm very interesting in this pappone stuff, but don't know how to use it correctly. Should I put icecubes directly in the tank? Or pour them with RO water prior feeding? Do I need the target feed my sps? Or just dissolve pappone icecubes in DT? It will be very helpful to upload some feeding video with pappone here.
Thank you very much in advance, guys!

Just thaw it out and suck it up with a syring. Please remember only use 5ml per 100 gallon tank once a week. You can target feed if you like just make sure to turn off return pumps for about an hour or two to allow Sps to feed. Then turn pumps back on and check your live stock. You will see explosive amounts of growth and life in your tank in about 6 weeks.
Enjoy and go slow more is less In this case

Michael, thank you very much!
I've been told that pappone works well with DSB filtration. But I'm running zeovit for now. Could I use pappone as well without any hesitations?

thanks Biggles, trueblack, others...

I recall at the onset of this thread, or maybe it was a similar thread, where comparison was made in filming Acro response to various food to a general wafting of detritus. seemed that food/detritus produced similar results including documented findings of polyp extension along with messenterial filaments

For those that feed by manner of ground shellfish/sugar mix with success, please comment on your general fish bio-load.

i'm all for this feeding manner and appropriate nutrient import/export balance, just curious of the bio-load and fish feeding practices of those that also include feeding SPS as a routine.

No here is something that I was told this weekend at our local reef club meeting. I don't no if it works yet but I am going to share what Anthony told me. He uses his skimate, that's right he removes his skimate and adds it back into the tank once a week. I didn't ask ow much but he did say the really wet green slim. I will try it in a month or do and let ya no how it works. I will say his Sps are dripping in color and he has all the rare stuff including jawdropper.

Interesting to hear that your corals responded to the coral vitalizer so fast. Dosing coral vitalizer, pohl's extra, coral booster, and zeofood, my PE is pretty good. However I even dose some of these over what is recommended for 75 gallon system and still have some pale SPS. The Zeovit system has done what it's intended to do, create an ULNS environment, but I'm having a trouble time keeping my corals well fed. I've recently started adding reef chili and pappone and hopefully I'll see an increase in coloration and growth in the near future.

you are in a good position now.

play with food dosing [xtra and CV] and carbon [start3] doses ...

keep one constant, change the other, record changes on corals.

for example, keep feeding the same, lower start3 dosage by a bit .... continue for a week and see what happens. your corals are the best test ... but you may also test po4 to make sure its not raising.

depending on the recorded changes, make the next adjustments in 2 weeks.

What I've done the last 2 and a half weeks is actually stop dosing start3 to see the effect. I've been dosing around the recommend dosages for Phols Xtra Special, coral vitalizer, coral booster, zeofood, pappone, and reef chili. I've seen slightly better color and some growth as a result. I'm out of town but will be excited to see how things look when I get back.
