Squamosa Clam moving.....

I picked up a very nice Squamosa clam from the LFS a couple of weeks ago after having good success with a Crocea clam. The Crocea has attached to a frag disk in the sand on the bottom of the tank and appears to be very happy there. I am running 2 X 250 watt MHs lights w/ 20K temp bulbs. Anyway, the Squamosa clam was attached to an Oyster shell at the LFS and so I left him that way as I should have and placed him on the sandbed of my tank. The clam has been doing well, but two days ago I woke up to find he had detached himself from the oyster shell and moved into the sand nearby. Last night I moved him back to the original location he was in and this time buried the oyster shell with a little sand over it before placing the clam gently back over it. Is it normal for Squamosas to move like this? He moved back to the spot he liked again, so should I just bury a frag plug or shell under the spot he likes and let him be so he won't attached to the bottom glass? Thanks for any suggestions. He is opening fully and quickly closes when a shadow comes over him, so the clam appears to be healthy.

If after twice that he moves to the spot that he likes, let him be. You dont really want to move clams around often as this stresses them quite a bit......prolly the spot that he likes is favorable for him.

Squamosa clams are sand-bed dwellers - there's no need for anything under it anchor by once they reach a certain size -their sheer weight deter predators.

He has moved twice again since my last post and attached to the front glass. Both times I has cut him loose as far away from the base of the clam as possible with a razorblade. He appears to be doing fine because he is moving again! I didn't know clams could be so active! My Crocea stays put, but the Squamosa is as bad as an anemone! :) Any Suggestions?

let it go where it wants to,moving i back is only going to stress the clam.Mine moved around for awhile until it found a place it liked.right up against the front glass.

+1 vote to let it move where it wants. You are only going to be fighting a losing battle.

Squamosa's definitely prefer being in the sand, so don't try to put a plug under it or it will prompt it to move.

I just purchased a T. squamosa from my lfs, I have had a crocea for almost a year. I read you should place clams on a rock so pyram's cant get to the bottom of them. You all are saying it is ok for the squamosa to go in the sand, what about predators?
