Does anybody of you have an experience with keeping this fish? I have 240 gallons tank with 5 tangs. I've heard that those fish can kill my large cleaning shrimps. Is it true? There are different information about their maximum size. What about feeding? Is it possible to accomodate them to dry flakes? How often i will need to feed? And finally how many males and females i can keep in my tank? I have large space for swim and not powerfull light (only about 600W - mainly soft corals) what can be suitable for fish and their colours.

I had two females that just died a few months ago.. totally my fault. but before they died ,they were fed once a day with spectrum flake food. mine were about three inches long and lived for about two years in my 265 reef. one was just starting to change to male when i killed them.... :(

I have a female. Shes been with me about a year probably. IME they could care less about my shrimp. I have cleaners, sexy and fire shrimp. When I first got her all she would eat was frozen but by the time she was moved from QT she would eat just about anything. She even eats the nori as the tangs shred it from the clip. I feed once sometimes twice a day. One male with 3 females would be really cool. Just remember they can be some what aggressive twords smaller tank mates but IME its all chase and no bite. They are kinda a large fish so I will let you decide if your system can handle the load.

I've never kept P. pleurotaenia, but I just want to comment on the size of these fish. My LFS had a male and five females a week ago. All of the females were about 5" and the male was a bit bigger.

I attempted a group of four females one male. I didn't add all the females on the same day, and one of the ones added last was smaller. Mine were 4" except for the last female, which was 3". She was almost immediately hounded to death. The next female up the pecking order developed popeye and eventually died (@around six months). The male's color gradually faded and he died after about a year. Eventually I had one female, which tried to attain male coloration. She also got a bacterial infection and died after about three years. That was the only one that would ever eat anything besides frozen mysis, she ate all the dry foods too.
