What is this on my glass? It appeared just this morning.

They are going to die, almost certainly. Most snails have a long enough pelagic larval stage that they cannot reproduce successfully in our tank.

Yep. :( Stomatella snails can reproduce in most tanks. They reproduce in mine. You could try some of them for a self-sustaining snail population.

those are cerith snail eggs. pretty much no chance of them surviving in a system not designed to breed snails. but the corals, and fish love them if they hatch. :D

I have the same thing from time to time.

Can these be scraped off the glass and droped into a refug? Will this keep them alive.

the eggs will stay alive in the tank. but once they hatch (if fertilized), they are in a tiny larval stage, this stage last many days. somewhere around 30 days for ceirths. during that stage they usually get consumed by corals, fish, and anything else that can in the tank. those that are not consumed are skimmed out, filtered out, or get trapped in the sand. those that make it past the larval stage usually starve as there is not enough small algae for them to eat.

I have had cerith snails reproduce in my tanks before. I usually see the eggs about once or twice a month. They last a few days then hatch over a days time. The snails will take a while to show up and when they are small only at night a few hours after dark. I have even found live ones living in my filter.

have you had them grow into adults? got any pics of them? are you positive they are not Rissoid snails?

We have also had ceriths reproduce in our tank. The first small ones we noticed are now 1/2" long, and there appears to be a new round of smaller ones.

I dont have a camera so I doubt ill get a pic up and no they are not adults but i got some that are about a half inch or so.They look whitish until they grow out a bit then get their black color. They do look alot like Rossoid snails at first (which I have seen in person) but are a bit shorter and stubbier.
