Stacking rock against the glass - pros and cons?

Hey All,

I will be rescaping my 90 this weekend and was looking for some feedback. In the past I always tried to leave some space between the rock and all sides of the tank for cleaning purposes and for fear of scratches and just having rock against glass.

I wanted to read some comments regarding if you do or don't stack the rock close to the sides and back. Maybe some pros and cons to help me decide.

i have maybe two rocks against the glass in the 90g...on the one side that isn't seen much, i don't mind the build up, but on the other side, i hate it. When i rescape it to move some things to the 120g, that will change.

interesting question, i would also like to know this. when i stack my rock i too always make sure there is some space between the rock and the glass.

I stack rock so its touching the back, that doesnt bother me to much bc i cant get back there with a mag float any ways. As for the fronts and sides i keep rock clean so that my mag float can make it thru!

I'd strongly consider placing rock against the back glass or any pane not used for viewing. Keep rock well away from any viewing panes.

i agree with gary, the viewing surface should be cleanable with the mag cleaner. one of my tanks i made the mistake of stacking rock too close and it is a pain, i will correct this when i make some changes soon.
