star polyp invasion

has anyone been able to stop star polyps from spreading over other corals, especially sps? please help me if you can, although I love them they are becoming a nuisance in my tank, they have almost completly coverd a huge colony of montipora digita & they are headed for my staghorns

your just gonna have to manually remove it. pull up as much of the mat closest to what u dont want it going for or chip it off the rock, and toss it or trade it at a local meeting or lfs.

best way to keep the gsp if u like it is just attach a small portiom of the mat u pulled up to a size of rock u want. and place it BY ITSELF in the sand bed so it wont spread. thats the only way i could keep any of mine. however, it hasnt spread to the sand bed so im happy with the fist sized rock i have of it. and so are my other corals :)

thanks, bri, i have tried to do such, however they are too close to my other corals now and pulling them up is not a viable option, i would damge my high priority sps

no prob sportoO, at some point though, your gonna have to make a choice, cuz the star polyps will only continue to take over. IMO, id cut my losses now, get it out of my tank and be done with it so there were no future losses... Good luck with whatever u do decide though :)

put an anemone, frogspawn, hammer, mazebrain, torch, or plate coral next to them and they will sting/eat them if they try spreading into them. Nature's own way of keeping them in check.

I have the mat of them just laying on top of a rock. I know this might not be the best thing to do but I just move the mat periodically. This seems to help keep them from spreading beyond where I want them
