Started a new tank

I got a 1/2 10 gallon frag tank (Glass Cages) from the Critter, and built a false wall in the back. I made a couple of chambers like the Nanocube...after having a 'dual' return attempt fail, due to the returns not being cut deeply enough. (I'll try this again soon.)
At the moment, it's in the 2nd day of cycling.

It makes a nice 'bookshelf' sized tank, that tucks away nicely on my desk at work.

Anyways, just thought I'd share.

Sounds like a cool setup. I opened the thread expecting to see stuff about your 75. We'll have to throw a party once that 75 gets going

Sorry.....here's some pics from the other day. I'm not sure why the pics that I took today aren't working.

Yeah Crumbletop, that 75g is on hold. We're thinking about getting a new house, so it's not worth setting it up just to take it down.

man, i was planning on picking up that tank at the critter.....oh well

can we get some more pictures of how you did the back?

i like it, but why so much sand, or is that crushed coral?

do you get your black acrylic somewhere local? i use to get it from a guy on ebay for pretty cheap but that was a few years ago. I was thinking of doing another diy nano with a false wall sometime soon and i like the look of the 1/2 10g tank your using. when i go to glass cages to check out there starphire glass ill have to pick one up.

I've got the black background on the back and sides, except in the middle where the chaeto will go.

Yeah, I kinda dumped the crushed coral in there. I have plans to thin it out and add finer grain sand later.

Here's a couple of more shots. Maybe these will keep their link.

Yeah, these guys are great and there's no minimum order!!! In fact, the last two pieces I had them cut were so small, they didn't even charge me!!!

If you take them measurements like 19.625" x 5.25" in 1/4" black acrylic.....they'll cut it on the spot. I LOVE IT!!!!!

http://www.advanced-plastics (just put .com after it.)

Glasscages also has these in acrylic.....might be an option for you.

The only thing that I wish was different, was that it was thicker glass. This is REALLY thin glass.

Fusion

Fusion

You can paint Plexi with Fusion- it fuses with the plastic.

It is non toxic and I have had it in my tank for over a year.

Yeah, it's much cheaper. I had to buy a tank (1/2 10 gallon), some acrylic, locline misc and a pump (because I wanted an adjustable speed to play with).
Most of you guys have this stuff laying around.....so it wouldn't cost you a dime. It was fun seeing it work for the first time. I've got TREMENDOUS flow in that tank! So far, it's just a zoanthid tank with a sprig of Xenia, that will soon be gone.....I'm not making that mistake again!

To give you an idea on size, here's some pics from the first attempt....dual overflow.
Next project....... rip this back out, recut the overflows and get this to work.

Looks good and I'm glad you have a hood on that rim. That is about the only problem I have with GC these days. Every tank I still see has sub-par quality on the lip/rim (plastic). Looks like there would be some kind of heated bender or molder that could make it perfect.
