Started Ruby Reef Kick Ich 4-11-2010 ( 4 weeks)

I started the process of the Kick Ich solution and i will advise the progress daily. I have some ich but have started with the 2 oz per 25 gallon dosage. From what i have read some of the people that it did not work on did not do the treatment long enough so i have 5 liters for 4 to 5 weeks. We will see how it works. Skimmer is off for now.

BTW ich is present on my Blonde Naso and Hippo. Vjamini, Desjardini Sailfin, yellow tangs look good.

Would be curious to see what your results are. By the way, what size tank do you have? Must be pretty large for all those tangs!

150G DT . 6 foot long and 27 inches deep. only 18 inches wide though. im on the cusp about getting rid of one of my tangs but in all they have plenty of room for now. as they get bigger then they will go back to the LFS for something smaller or it may be time for an upgrade if my wife doesn't have a heart attack about it.

everything looked good last night, all coral were open and fish seemed fine when i arrived home. skimmer is still off and i have no ill effects as of yet. will dose again tonight and then list whats going on in the tank when i get home. seems ok so far. again i dosed a heavy dose which is 2 oz for every 25 gallons every other day. ich is still present on 2 fish but im in the early stages of the process so i would not expect to see results until a few weeks into the process.

How are the ich-infected fish doing? Are they active and eating?

well the yellow belly hippo is new and in still in the hiding stage. The blonde Naso has always eaten but very slow and picky about what she eats. The Naso seems fat and healthy but doesnt fight much for food like some of the others. She was a bi-product of a shipment that was held up at the airport and almost didn't make it so she has had a stressful few months. The Hippo comes out for a minute or two but then hides again. I may ave to pull it out to feed but honestly i will be nearly impossible to get it out without removing a lot of rock so maybe she will come around. the others show signs by scratching themselves on the sand or rocks but all others ea very well.

Moved to New to the Hobby for more views. Kick-Ich has been around for years. There's no evidence that it does anything useful at all, although it's not always reef-safe.

Bertoni, Can you elaborate on the " not always reef-safe" ? From what i have read it seems to be more of a process error or length of treatment than the actual results of the product itself but again this is my first treatment but i did hours of research on it.

In my experience...
That stuff destroyed some of my hard corals with
first treatment.
It made my indigo blue hamlet hyperventilate and my
foxface sheds his slime coat everyday for over a week.
Hence..."may not be reef-safe"

Depending on your setup even turning off a skimmer and removing GAC for the duration of Tx may not be reef safe. :lol:

hmmmm, very interesting. i will keep everyone informed and if this product causes more harm than good. With the complaints that have arisen, why is the product still in production?

There is really no regulation in the industry. Look at garlic. It does not help SW fish fight ich and seems to likely damage livers. But people keep buying it constantly so of course they keep making it. They are not selling a regulated medication like an antibiotic so they can really do whatever they want. Due to the natrual life cycle of ich and fish's ability develop a partial immunity where you no longer see external infection.... reef safe cures and garlic often appear to be really working well.

If you bathe with a rubber ducky when you have chicken pox your chicken pox will go away.

how so? if it works then good and if not then its another known method that does not work and prevents others from doing the same thing.

Just remember the visible signs of ich will clear up on its own in 8-10 days (roughly) if the fish continue eating. This can give you a false sense of success with treatment products. Because the parasite would have gone away anyway.

I just got thru a nasty bout of ich by feeding heavily. I did lose 2 fish, but 5 others that had it bad are now 100% cleared up.

From my experience, It may show up again when the cycle is complete but if my fish are strong and unstressed, it will be mild and easily fought off. After that, If my fish continue in good health, it wont show up again. Tho I also know it will always remain in the system unless I go fallow.

i haven't seen any stress on the coral yet but i am keeping a close eye on them. I have several types of Zoas, hammer, duncan, birdsnest and several monti caps,candy cane, open brain, brain and fingerleather.

as far as the fish go the yellow belly hippo only has one or two spots, the blonde naso has some but honestly it looks like sand on her, its been on there for awhile and its only on the top portion of her body. im curious if its not ich at all and its just sand stuck to her coat. the goby tends to stir up the tank and maybe it just stays stuck to her and not the others for some reason.
