Hmmmmm, Never really heard of that but perhaps I didn't see a problem because I've always had high or almost high bio-load.
Yeah beats me... I can't remember where I read it, but it's one of those things that "stuck" with me. Who knows... I may be unnecessarily be sticking my fingers in harm's way.

I believe it was on a Caulerpa vs. Cheato for better nutrient export debate thread. I'll have to try and look it up.

It was a pretty interesting read, and had few explanations for different fuge setups, and the reasonings behind them. I actually think someone dropped the link on Capn's thread a long long time ago.

That may change when we get the Carpet Anemone though. :D
Yeah Kevin made me think twice about the Carpet Nem after he told the story about one latching onto the owner's arm when he was working in the tank :eek2:

Better to be safe than sorry. ;)

I had the same thing started--I sprinkled some fish food in the sump and started dosing with iron twice a week---greened the chaeto right back up
What's the proper method for dosing Iron? I've heard that you don't want to dose anything you can't test for, but do you dose Iron in such small amounts that it wouldn't matter?

Also, is there a specific aquarium additive or recommended Iron supplement?

Where does one find this story? I want to know this story! :D

Especially since I have a considerably sized RBTA in my tank now... and I'm paranoid about getting nailed.

I wouldn't worry about the BTA's they're not as bad. But the carpets are real stingers. I eventually got used to the sting of the BTA as I know alot of people do. But I did have my hands in the tank everyday. But then when I added the clowns, I had to get used to them biting me.

EDIT*** I just read that back and it sounds as if I became immune to the sting. :lmao: What I meant was, once you get stung quite alot you eventually expect it so you don't panic and try yank your hand away.

I dunno exactly, somewhere back through the mess. I'm pretty sure it was a large blue carpet. I'm pretty sure it was a haddoni, as I think those are the fish eaters. Anyway, the guy was performing maintenance in his tank, and the sukcer latched on. He had to run the carpet anemone under hot water to get it to let loose. As you can imagine he lost the Nem...

...oh and his arm. :eek2:

GOTCHA!!! :lolspin: :lolspin: :lolspin:

I think the guy just had some nasty stings or abrasions or something. Honestly I wouldn't be too worried about the BTA.

I still jump when the female clown bites me. I keep getting worried I'm going to take out a bulb one of these days yanking my arm back.

Curse her and her little powerhead hosting mate.

A lil' clubhouse help please

A lil' clubhouse help please

I just contacted a local tank builder asking how much it would be for them to build me a 29g tank and if they used tempered glass so I could drill it myself incase it cost too much for them to drill it (which it does) and they say they only use "annealed" glass. Now I have no idea what that is or if it is drillable. So could somebody give me a little insight as to what it is and if it is drillable please?

Thanks

Annealing is a stress relief process, which I believe is geared at softening and increasing the machinability of a material.

Whereas tempering I believe is done to increase the hardness of a material.

So "my" initial suspiscion is that it would be ok to drill... but don't hold me to it :p

I should really know this answer... :rolleye1:

- I would use a 90 degree output on the return in the tank. My 45 degree blew sand all over, and forced me to switch to the 90.
I'll go with the 90 then, Wouldnt want sand all over. :)
I personally put a tee on the return line at the top of the tank and converted to 2 loc-lines for ease of aiming the flow where I wanted it. I used two 3/4" loc-lines being fed by 1 1/4" return line from my Blueline pump but, you could use the 1/2" size depending on the size of your pump or even a single 3/4" loc-line.

I didn't even think of that, Thanks!

Thanks, I just did a Google and it says that Annealed glass is softer and easier to work with (such as drilling) and tempered harder and undrillable.
