Can't believed I have been coaxed/forced out of retirement for the third time. Back to work again after six months off this time
I sure missed alot here in 12 hours.
Speaking of power failures --I did a piece --actually the first post on my log book thread--on power failures and how to prepare for them.
There is also a good thread listed there to some really neat backup systems

Capn, Where the water enters the tote from your refugium. I notice an extra piece of tubing attached to a T piece. How do you keep water from spurting out of this?

I believe that section of plumbing is only run under gravity, and not pressurized. Thus, as water always wants to go down thanks to gravity the only way water would exit that vent tubing is if there as a complete blockage at the refugium. And in that case, it looks like the previous tank would overflow before the water level got high enough to exit that tubing.

Of course, I could be totally wrong, and most likely am.

The water flows from left to right by gravity. The drain is ted off and half goes to the second fuge on the left and the other half to the protein skimmer /sump.
when I had problems with the second fuge and fish food ending up in it---I put another feed on the line so I run flow to each fuge separately. I worked through the cyano problems in the second fuge and have just not bother to use the second line

I think I will however because the macro in the first fuge(the tote) is taken a hit now that macro has really established itself in the the second fuge and its removing alot of phosphates ect from the water column before it trickles into the first fuge

Update---the copperbanded butterfly is even eating with the others and has kicked the damsel out of its cave--LOL

The powder blue is being accepted to swim with the back but made to eat on its own still by the yellow tang.

The cream angel is pretty messed up by the damsel who is just relentless up till this afternoon
I have never seen this before---the angel floats up into the corner under the loc lines and a pajama cardinal has now decided to protect him. Every time the damsel comes near the angel the pajama cardinal scares it away--unbelievable eh?
This damsel is your typical bulley---tough guy til someone stands up to them--then they don't want any part of it.

Sounds like the gang initiation may almost be over for the PBT.

have you taken any FTS with the new additions in the tank?

I see, Thanks for explaining that, ;)

Yeah I'll probably look into a backup system which would be capable of running a heater and my return pump for an extended period of time this winter.

Like I said I'm going to mount the powerstrips off the ground and barricade off the back of the tank to keep Petey out.

Scott, I'm glad that "intertank relations" are starting to abate and become less hostile. My Chromis is just the goldfish in the tank. Really plain and blends into the background. He's like the forgotten one. The only time I have seen him show any personality is when he was trying to "sit" in my Diamond Goby (RIP :(). Other than that, he might posture a bit to ward off any bullying from the clowns, but is totally benign. Let's hope he stays that way!

Hey does ayone know if I can use that Tropic Marin Coral Cure on Zoanthids?

I know its good for stoney corals, but I wasn't sure about Zoanthids.

I wan't to add the one small frag of Zoanthids that has rebounded in QT to my display tank, but I want to dip it first.

Glad to hear he's allowed out and about now. Maybe he'll be at the dinner table soon. I remember when I had to look after a friends 2" Sailfin when he was going through a tank crash. The Damsel immediately attacked him and wouldn't stop for 3 days and then one day as the Clown Tang was doing his usual thing, just swimming around the tank minding his own business. The fight got in the way of him and Coco (the Clown Tang) absolutely ripped that Damsel to shreds, I didn't see it for 2 days after that and when it came out he almost had no fins. I figured it was time to intervene and take that Damsel out. Luckily he was quite an easy catch which is rare for Damsels IME. But, Damsels will be Damsels.

Capn I'm sure in no time the PBT will show the others who is the new boss in the tank.
After that I doubt you will beable to add anymore tangs to the tank.
Good luck.

Went for 60 min with the dog---came back there's the damsel circling the floating angel--but everytime he gets too close the pajama coral muscles in between them--I have never seen a fish relationship like that

I mean a pajama coral at that---I guy wearing his pajamas would be the last guy that would help you out in a fight :)

Maybe they aren't pajamas but the fish equivalent of a martial arts outfit or some sort of aquatic superhero costume. :D
