Starting a new 90 Progress will be updated

Here's my newest addition. Sorry for the poor picture he's in a plastic acclimation container.

Probably a stuid question, but I just got a frag of a acan that has a similar "cut" to it. Just a square chunk. How does it grow into its original shape? Can you post a picture of what this piece looks like now?

Here's the Bruddah's Original (Sam Tabora) Superman Danae. Boy was this expensive. This piece is only about a half inch which puts the price at $43,000 per square foot.

A bit of bad news.

The Elegance (Aussie Catalaphyllia jardinei) I bought a month ago appears to have come down with the Indo Elegance disease. I posted a thread of the LPS forum and most have told me this looks like an Indo instead of an Aussie. I specifically ordered the Aussie to avoid this problem.

The good news is I called LiveAquaria.com and they credited me my $150 plus the shipping with no questions asked. This is great customer service.

Below are the before and current photos of the Elegance.

Dano,

Great thread I just made it through the 21 pages. You have done a lot in a short period of time. Sucks about the skimmer and sump changes but that all comes with learing. I had the same edjucational set backs early on in my tank as well. The tank is looking great!!

I have a Powder Brown as well they are pretty cool fish. Mine OWNS the tank. I think it's female. (just kidding ladies)

Anyway I just wanted to chime in and say great job and I'll tag along with you!!

Ziggy953 and adamsarmywife, I appreciate the compliments thanks.

It's been a lot of trial and error (mainly on the sump skimmer area) but a good learning experience.

My Powder Brown tries to own the tank but is only half the size as the Foxface. They both fight over the last piece of Nori but the Foxface can consume a 1" x 2" square in a few seconds. The PBT has such a small mouth he looses every time.

The new Watanabei is the same size as the Foxface so this should be interesting. It's still in quarantine so better pics will come in a while.

I ordered another Aussie Elegance (fragged from a fellow reefer) that should arrive on Wednesday. He said it's been a couple months since it was fragged and is doing well. Meanwhile my sick Elegance has been moved to a shadier area with less flow to see if it helps. If it truly has the disease it only has about a 5% chance of making it.

Here's the latest of the Duncan. If you want to see how much it's grown in three months go back to December or look at my avatar.

It's doing well. I moved it over the weekend and as soon as it gets used to it's new spot I'll take a new picture.

Here is a picture of the Angel I just added. The PBT immediately started attacking him for territory but the Angel is more than twice the PBTs size and won. The PBT is now showing some battle scars from rubbing against the rock during the battle.

As I mentioned on Sunday I ordered another Elegance to replace the sick one. I have the sick one in a hospital tank for now.

This one is a litter smaller but definitely an Aussie. It has expanded to 4 to 5 times it's size already and is twice the size as shown below. I also got an Aussie Goniastrea which I will post pics shortly.

I bought 5 new frags yesterday and mounted them with some epoxy. I had the skimmer off for 24 hours while the epoxy cured and when I turned it on it went nuts. It's been like this for a few hours now. If I put the cup on it fills with water in a minute. The valve is all the way open.

I also have an outbreak of Lobophora algae. After researching there seems to be no painless way to get rid of it. There are three options.

lobophora.jpg

1. Buy a Naso tang which may eat it. This is not an option because the PBT and the Naso will fight and one will die.

2. Remove the rock and either boil it or replace it. The two pieces this infects are 30 lbs each and are the base pieces. Replacing them would be a huge change to the tank. Boiling them is not an option as they are too big.

3. Buy a Longspine urchin. Longspine urchins are known to eat this algae along with all the coraline algae in the tank. Of the three options this appears to be my best of the three options.

If this does not work expect an upgrade to a larger tank this summer. If I am going to disrupt this tank I may as well do the upgrade I plan to do in the future now.

Pictures of the 5 new frags will be posted shortly.

Here's the Longspine Urchin. It's bigger than I expected. It was listed as 2" to 3" which I assumed included the spines. The actual size is that of a softball when including the spines. If it knocks too much stuff over it may be here only for a short time.

Here's the latest FTS. You can see the Lobophora on the two center large pieces.

A little bit of info.

If you look close you can see a line towards the top of the tank back wall and overflow where the coraline has different shades. It looks like a shadow line but it's not.

Until recently I left my lights on when I did a water change. The bright light unfiltered by the water will bleach the coraline in minutes. For the last few changes I only use the front and back two lights to perform water changes. The results are significant.

Close ups of some of the latest additions.

These were added two weeks ago but I never got around posting pictures.
