Starting a new tank thread....

Well, I figure with a new tank in the works, It's a good time to start a new thread for it....

Picked up the tank today, its a GlassCages tank, 90g (36"x24"x24") rimless, starfire front and side panels, with black silicone. I also had them throw together one of their overflow covers while they were at it....

Starfire versus regular (I cant wait to see it in the daylight):

All in all I am more than happy with the GlassCages product. You hear some horror stories, but most of them appear to be taken care of and I thought their customer service was great....

Im going to try to get over to Home Depot tomorrow to buy some lumber for the start of the new stand.... :hammer:

So far the tentative list of equipment looks like so:

90g rimless
30L sump
ATI T5 8x39 powermodule fixture
Tunze Silence return pump
I-Tech Model 100 skimmer with Tunze hydrofoamer
Profilux Plus II (will be upgrade to PIII at Christmas)
(2) Tunze 6105 pumps (I might downsize to 6055's if theyre too much flow)
Profilux Simu-L dusk/dawn/lightning storm LED light stick

Im also planning on possibly making the jump to the balling light method on this tank and tying a Profilux doser into my Plus III.

nice! when is the tank warming party?

Its going to be awhile.... I need to get this tank ready to go and then transfer over all the stuff from my 180. I have to make a stand and make a few other changes in the room that the tank will be going into. :bounce3:

im glad you went with the 8 bulb model. you can get a much better color combo out of that. if you throw in a figi bulb it wont glow too pink.

I always wanted an 8 bulb, Ive just been trying my best to keep everything an even swap pricewise and the Sunpower 6 bulb was a better option financially.....

After I sell all my old lighting, Im going to end up spending about $250 more on the new fixture, but I figured if I stayed with the old lighting its all going to need new bulbs fairly soon anyway, so it should end up being just about even....

They have a rimless 190 and 240... theyre both really large bases though (48x36 and 48x48)... Thats just alot of floor space to give up. :D

I was originally thinking about going with a standard 90g, but everytime I looked at my 180 I cant get over how nicely the left side aquascaping came out. So the plan is take the aquascaping that was on the left side and transfer it right into this tank.....

So I went with my 180 cut in half.........

Heres a picture of the left aquascape that Im hoping to transfer, its a little blurry and is an older picture so things are more grown in, but you get the idea...

It can be a little hard to see but theres also a TON of caves and places to swim around and through...

It looks sharp. I like the more open style landscaping.

Not a fan of the Vortech pumps?
I'd like to check out the tank some day. I've got an itch to do an interesting corner system, and have glass cages make the rimless tank.

It's not that I dont like the Vortech pumps, but Tunze has phenominal customer service and are controllable with my Profilux... I cant pass up that combination.

Let me know how the overflow cover works for you. I had to modify mine so I could get get any kind of turnover in the tank. I want to try some penductors on mine as I would like to get get a little more flow without opening the valve more and risk overflowing the tank, my water level is pretty high.

I dont think it'll be much of a problem..... My return pump is only going to be pulling water through the sump slightly fast than what the skimmer can handle, which shouldnt be anything too crazy....

Ill definitely keep updating this thread though in the meantime...

Snakeman have you ever used the i-tech skimmer or is it new give up your opinion about the skimmer because i'm looking at the 400
thank you
lothar
