Of course the one coral that had to die was my Oregon blue tort :furious:

This frag started out as a stub. Never grew in my 180 for some reason. Put it in here with the T5's and its sprouting like CRAZY and has doubled in size:

Finally I have some new residents too.....

Do you have a pic of the brown hair algae. I think my tank has something similar because there is a fuzzy layer of algae covering the LR. If that is the case, then I will get some turbo snails.

Unfortunately I didnt take a picture of it.... It sounds like the same thing to me.. Make sure theyre true mexican ones and you should be good to go. I got mine from live aquaria, and the things were huge. They didn't put a huge dent in it right away, but after a week you noticed they were starting to eat it, and then two weeks later it was all gone....

It used to cover ALL the glass and a ton of the rock. It even choked out some of my coral like my candy canes....

I added them and also put thick curtains up in the room to stop sunlight from blasting the tank in the afternoon and you see how it turned out...

Well I spent the afternoon dialing in my dosing pumps and am now in the process of getting all the chemicals dialed in. As usual, I plan on going really slow to get things in line slowly and to make sure I dont kill anything....

I am now officially using the balling light method on the tank, hoping it works as well as it's supposed to.

Nevermind the bad phone picture or the wiring mess, once everything gets dialed in I will be tidying up all the wiring.

Anytime my father comes over to visit he called the old setup the meth lab because all the hoses from the RO unit, to the ATO, to the kalk reactor, to the carbon and GFO reactors was just a huge mess of hoses......

This will be much better once it's all dialed in. I spent a good amount of time routing the tubes going to the sump with the little clips, just have to do more tidying up with the wires and the hoses for the ATO once thats officially online.

Updates???

I should have a bunch of new pictures and stuff coming up. I just noticed you posted that request...

My tank will officially be 1 year old at the end of the month, it's been a slow process with some casualties, but I'm really close to getting the balling salts completely dialed in and then I'll be good to go replacing all the coral I lost in the transfer.....

Sorry Ive been slacking guys...... Just had a million things going on all at one time and I got in for knee surgery tomorrow morning so it's not going to be getting better anytime soon.... I'll get up some pictures as soon as I can though....

I will say I lost a few SPS corals to an STN issue, that I'm thinking is from high alkalinity and bio-pellets. I've since ordered a new bucket of salt that doesn't have all the elevated reef numbers and will be switching to it. Ive had to turn the dosing off basically to keep my alk at 9.0 dKh, and I'm hoping the salt switch will get me down around 7.5 dKh.

Sorry to hear about the knee, I know rehabbing it will be tons of fun.

Sorry to hear about the tank issues. How long have you had the bio pellets running? How do you like the Vertex skimmer?

I'm going on three months now with them running. The skimmer is pulling out a TON of crud, I just need to get the alk level down to NSW levels so I hopefully see this STN issue go away.

I've been using Seachem Reef Salt on the tank which is usually around 10-11 dKh, and I'm switching over to Red Sea Salt which should get me into the high 7 to low 8 dKh range with some good size water changes.... I used their Coral Pro salt on my 180g with good results, so I figured I'd try their regular salt since any other levels that are lower I can fix with the balling salts.

I was worried about getting a higher end skimmer at first since I had unbelievable results with my MSX250 before this tank, but figured I would go for it once I decided to downsize. The thing is unbelievable. The construction on it is second to none, it's got some good weight to it. All the materials are high end, the skimmer is the quietest skimmer I've ever heard. It was worth every penny IMO. I am likely a lifelong BK owner now, even if I go to a larger tank again in the future.

This is 2 days worth of gunk about a month after starting the BP reactor. It pulls even nastier stuff now.....

Your tank thread was such a great inspiration for me to build my first tank for the fist time without making mistakes last year. I picked the same size tank of yours, return pump, skimmer, controller, dosing pump etc and even sump setup. I still like the setup a lot and I never have to buy any of equipments or rebuild twice. I still think that this is one of best setups I have seen. it's very quiet.

I hope the knee surgery goes well and keep the pictures coming.:):):)
