Starting a new tank thread....

Yep. I have some aiptasia and poccillipora on my current live rock that I wanted to make sure I didnt have in the new tank, so I started with new dry rock again in the new tank.....

Every tank I have started has been with dry marco rock, then I add a scoop of livesand into my fuge from an established tank and then all the critters start to populate the new rock.

I see....

I am picking up the tank this weekend so there is no rush whenever your rock or sand is available, Please let me know.

Well, I nuked my green with blue tip stag.... Oh well.... Had to lower my blue tort down some as well until its finished being acclimated to the new light, then I'll slowly raise it up in the tank....

BUT, I now have residents in the tank.... I transferred my clowns and their frogspawn last night...

None of them seem too thrilled in the pictures, but I'm sure theyll come around.

Well, its been awhile since I last updated this..... Things have been really hectic at work, so I havent been able to get much done.... I've been running new conduit over to the closet area so I can have dedicated electrical circuits for the tank.

I took advatange of the nice weather and turned the garage into a wood shop. I'm building a 4 level shelving unit, the bottom shelf will hold the RO/DI resevior to perform top offs, The next shelf up will hold the top-off pump and 20g tank for water changes, The next shelf up will hold (3) 2,5g tanks for the balling light and misc. stuff, and the top shelf will hold the electrical end of things.

Here's the start of the shelving unit....

I also got a SWEET delivery yesterday....

Im hoping to have the shelves assembled, primed, and painted this weekend and then get them installed. I'm waiting for my DJ power station to go along with my power bars from my profilux. Other than that, things are just going slow.

Im hoping to have all the LR out of the 180 this week and get that tank broken down finally....:bounce3:

i'm a little confused why you are using dj power station if you have a profilux power bar. is it to maximize outlets?

There are many items that don't require you to control with a powerbar (I'm guessing all controllers are like this), so why waste space on expensive power bars with items that are usually always on.

My power bar will have all (3) plugs from my ATI unit, return pump, fuge light, heater, and skimmer. Then the DJ powerstation will hold the rest like the profilux, doser, (2) tunze powerheads, SW mixing pumps, etc.

Tank looks great.. surprised I missed this!

I plan on combining the ATI fan with dawn/dusk ballast on a single controlled outlet via a pig tail of some sort. If you start running out of power ports it's something you could consisider.

Looking good. What are the dimensions of those tanks. Thanks.

Just standard AGA 2.5g tanks. The dimensions are 12x8x10. I was going to get the balling specific canisters, but after seeing theyre $150+ for 2.5L containers, I went with these for like $25.

Already factored in, thats how I can get 7 items onto my 6 outlet powerbar. :D

badazztealcobra,
How do you like the Tunze 6055? Thanks.

I love em. Theyre typical Tunze equipment. ALOT of flow, zero noise, and low power consumption. I was thinking about putting my 6105's in here, but theyre noticibly larger and I wouldve had major sandstorms even with the larger grain sand I used this time around.

A quest for silence....

My first attempt was a normal looking durso, but unfortunately the top is just way too tall since I want the entire durso in the overflow so I can cover it and make it cleaner.....

Second thought was ditch the cap on top, do a reducer and plug, and then do a sweeping street 90:

I didnt like the striaght edges of that tee and I wanted to try to make it more of a sweeping design... So I used a sanitary tee and sanitary elbow. They end up being a little wider though and there were still some spots in the durso that werent "smooth"....

Got another sanitary tee and elbow, cut them where the red line shows so there was about 1/4" or so left on the tee and on the elbow to glue together:

After that, I cut down the reducing bushing (1.5" to .75" in my case) so the entire bushing would recess into the sanitary tee. the edges inside were perfectly contoured, nice, smooth, and compact so I could fit it under my overflow, and I drop about 1.5" down so I get great surface skimming and zero noise.

After all that, the only thing I really hear is the fans in my ATI light.... Its such a beautiful thing.

any updates on the dosing pump setup ?

Unfortunately, nothing yet. I'm tied up with the normal job and side work and have had no time to do much to my own house and display because of it....

Im hoping to have the new shelving unit done and installed this weekend though, so that will be a huge step forward....

Well I missed my deadline for the shelves by a few weeks, but theyre now installed with the new DJ power station as well.

I still need to build the raised shelving for the Profilux and doser to go above the balling containers, and I'm sure its going to be a while till thats plumbed and dialed in, but it's definitely getting closer.

Its going to be a week or two before that happens Pat.... I had a few things back up on me and ran into some problems. I found out that in the new smaller room the sun pounds the tank from 2PM until 7:30PM, and the curtains were way too thin and light was always hitting the tank. Needless to say between that and needing to change my RODI filters I'm in the middle of a huge battle with brown hair algae.

I tossed in 4 mexican turbo snails, added new RODI filters and have done 2 water changes, and it's definitely turned around. I also put thicker curtains in the window and have even thicker ones on order to make sure the sunlight pounding the tank doesnt happen again.
