starting a seahorse tank?

sweet thanks matt. My moms bugging me to get another fish that will swim around more (the blenny hangs out on the bottom most of hte time just hopping around and the firefish doesn't really swim around the entire tank (he does just not actively), are there any small fish that would do well in this setup that would be an active swimmer?

That's a tough one. Most of the active fish are fairly fast moving and may not make the best tankmates for the seahorses. You could try a few cardinals, they are fairly active and are fine with the horses. I'd say go with 2 of the bangaii and that should give her what she's looking for.

Next time you have her at Trop, show them to her and see what she thinks. You could also go with the PJ cardinalls, but personally I prefer the bangaiis.

Thanks matt, yea i figured fast moving would mean trouble. You think two would be okay in the tank even with the firefish and blenny? Obvously i dont want to endanger the tank or the seahorses.

Well i think i'm going to hold off on the cardinals because (drum roll please) I'm getting 2 female erectus with cirri on saturday :). I just placed the order with Draco Marine and cant wait :).

Fantastic!!! You do know that pics are required once you get them.

oh yees i do :), gonna have the camera ready by my side when they arrive. 4-5 months of reading and research will finally of payed off :), even though them coming is only the begining of the fun. Jorge recomend i only feed them mysid, right now i feed my firefish and blenny a mix of mysid, brine, and worms some days and the other days just mysid. I use the turkey baster technique so would i just feed them the one food while i ffeed the seahorses their mysid?

The horses will most likely only recognize the mysis as food. If they take some of the other it's not that big of a dealo as long as their main diet is the mysis.

not sure what time fedex does morning deliveries in my area, but im pretty sure they'r b4 12. I'm gonna get up soon and go park my butt on my couch so i can watch for them :).

some bad news :(. Fedex messed up shipping. They werent planning to deliver until monday. The box is somewhere in Newark Airport they say they are looking for it and will try to ship it out today but both me and jorge feel that, that is not going to happen. He does feel confident though that they will live until monday. I'll keep you guys updated.

jorge has been wonderful, after contacting fedex he personally called me and told me he feels they should be fine for 48 hours until the monday delivery and told me he's had a time when they were lost and weren't delivered for 14 days and were okay. He did say he would gaurentee it for me though so if the worst should happen, it'll be taken care of. I was looking at my tank today though (as i was wishing the doorbell would ring) and i think i might have a hitchiker feather duster. Hes pretty small i'd say no bigger than 1/4 inch but he has sort of transparent and black coloring. Here is the best picture i could get of him, hes on thee same rock as the maidens hair is.

thanks. hehe hes funny to watch. So i went down today just as the light came on and WOW there were little amphipods running all around the sand!

Okay so hopefully when i get home from school the seahorses will be here and alive. I'm planning on aclimating them like this
float 15min
bucket with drip 2-3hours
hand release (jorge said this is the best way)

Now heres the thing... the tank has been running flawlessly at 74.3 degrees. I realize thats a bit high but will it be too high? if so i could probably replaceboth heaters and see if i could get it a little lower. Or would pointing a fan at the SUMP help cool the water in the DISPLAY?

You should be fine at 74.3, but still think about options for cooling things down since summer is coming and your house temperature is probably going to get higher. Rather than pointing a fan at the sump, I'd float frozen bottles of water in the sump. If you're going to use a fan, I'd use a clip on one pointed at the display.
