Starting an interactive reef - 265g reef tank w/ live web camera

I will get you some better pictures and a few diagrams of the electric. I was busy last week getting ready for Melev's visit so I didn't get any updates out. It was great meeting Marc on Friday and he gave me a lot of good pointers about my system. (we had the club meeting Saturday at my offices) For one, I need to mod my hood to get my LumenArcs higher off the water. Hopefully someone will come out with an article about them soon...

I am enjoying the holiday with my family but will be back in the office on Tuesday and will get busy with the updates.

Ed's tank is going to be really nice, I can already tell. He's given it a lot of thought, and those people in his office will really benefit from the eye candy daily.

Thanks Marc. As anyone knows, taking a tank from build to a nice reef ecosystem is a SLOW process. I still haven't gotten to take any pictures of the how things currently are with the system yet, but there are some great photos in the article on Marc's site documenting his visit to Cincinnati and the CincyReef club meeting which was held in my offices.

I've hooked up the EcoTech VorTech pumps and all I can say is WOW! I was very frustrated with these pumps at first because they would vibrate off the glass whenever I tried to install them. The documentation (written by engineers) is a little vague so I wasn't setting them up right. Luckily Marc gave me a few pointers when he was in town and it turned out to be a breeze to set up. There is a rubber "dry gasket" that I thought I threw out with the box. It turns out it's stuck on the end of the pin spacer - something the manual doesn't mention! It's amazing how a 1/16" (or so) piece of rubber can make a HUGE difference. Makes sense, given the magnet motor has to be a precise distance from the propeller enclosure...

Anyway, Things are moving along nicely and I hope to have some photos posted soon.

When will the camera be online :)?
Great question - if I only had a good answer. I am hoping to get it up by next weekend, but I am going to be in and out of town for work over the next two weeks so I am not confident I will have the time. It actually isn't hard to set up but I need to make sure people outside our network can access it. If not, I have to get the network guy to configure the firewall so everyone can see it.

I also have some pics that I need to post of all the corals and tank. I should get them posted this weekend.

OK, here are some shots of the corals that are in the tank that I can get to:

This one is the frag that Melev suggested I get from Marine Solutions:

Most of them are sitting in the sand until I can get the reflectors raised another 6" and not scorch them.

I hope to get some shots of the fish as well, but that probably will not happen until I get back from my trip next Friday.

Those look really nice! Where did you get them? I also like your Rocks where are they from?
I got them from TheAquaDen - a buddy who sells on eBay while his web site is being worked on. He is looking into retail space in the area sometime this fall... The corals came directly from Bali and another island near the Philippines. (I forget the name) I think they did very well since he had them shipped directly to my office (I bought two full boxes worth) so they came straight from the coral farms. (instead of hitting a distributor, then the LFS, then my tank)

The rock came from TheAquaDen as well. I will get him to post more details in the thread about where it came from. Unfortunately he only hears about it about once a year so I got lucky that I was looking for some when it was available.

OK, I just found out the SPS came from Bali and all of the other coral came from Kupang. As for the rock, Gary thinks all of it is Tonga table top rock.

Later!

OK. After much pressure from Marc to post some updates, here are a few photos. The first two are showing where I hung the pictures I got from Marc in my office:

I got the digital images from him and had them printed and framed for his visit last MAY. This is the corner of our conference room where we always set up the food when we have meetings so they always get a lot of comments.
