Starting up my JBJ 12g Nano Cube again

oh why the 24's and not the 12's? I was leaning more towards the 24 gallon one but not if its going to have more problems with cracking and such...

I really could not tell you the answer to that... It was only after I bought my 12gal and started going to the nano forum that I heard so much about the 24's comming in with cracked glass... I guess if you buy it directly at the LFS, you'll not have that problem...

oooo they came cracked... I thought they were just being easily cracked after people already had them setup or cracking over time or something...

Nope ... They were comming in cracked...... I guess they don't travel well if not packed right.....

Hey Bob..good choices. The majority of my tank is from LA. Have fun acclimating all the stuff (better put a big towel on the floor). My only suggestions:

1) if you got yellow colony polyps with that pack, they can spread, so, put them where spreading is OK
2) the rics in general like lower light and low to medium flow...think lower part of your reef
3)feather dusters like the rubble/rock...keep it in an area of good flow since it is a filter feeder. You'll need to start adding phytoplankton for it to survive.

Have fun....you might need to get some epoxy putty or super glue gel to set those frags on. SH

Thanks... I'll let you know how they look and how the "planting" goes... I'll be getting them Sat. and I'll post ics Saturday night....

Bob

BTW..I'm getting a shipment from them too tomorrow, so, we'll compare notes. Hopefully, we won't have any losses during transit. SH

I hope not.... I'm getting over $400 worth... ( I'm also getting some clean-up crew for the 37gal and couple new fish for the 150gal )

Bad thing happened last night though, the pump powering my skimmer decided to "die" on me... It's on my 150gal.... One minute it was working... next minute ...nada... motor windings just opened.. actually the transformer ( it's not a motor )... I thank God it did not "burn" up... But I ordered another one off eBay and I should be good to go in a couple days...

It's a CA 2200 pump if anyone would like to know... lasted only 7 months... Next order I make is going to be a New skimmer.. I never did like this "built-in" model...

BTW SH.... what all did you order..??

Bob

My order was held up..I got a cryptic customer service email that my shipment was not sent. My order is a Tozeuma ghost pipe shrimp, tailspot blenny. SH

Did you request "overnight" Sat. shipping..?? If so, I'd be P'd...

I called yesterday before ordering this morning and they told me that as long as I got it in before 9:30 AM CS, I'd get it Sat. ..... By the way, I waited too long for the Hawaii featherduster.... Now they're out of them ... Oh well .. ordered a Coral banded for my 150gal instead... lol

One more thing... ( edit ) I just looked at LA's site... the shrimp is back ordered... maybe that is why your order is held up..?? And that blenny is beautiful... I may try one for the 37gal once it's got some more age to it...

Bob

Not sure...their answer was bland when I asked. Who knows..maybe they had some tank deaths...maybe they counted wrong. I'm now in the 2 week limbo stage. SH

Man... Sorry to hear that ..... I'll bet it's the backordered shrimp causing the delay... I don't understand the "bland" answer though ..... You'd think they'd be pretty straight up about the reason for not filling your order....

Good luck with it... I'd love to see how both your new charges look in the tank....

Bob

Well... It has begun... I recieved my order from L.A. and starteed the aclimation process.... I've got stuff going in to all of my tanks ( 3 of them )... And took shots of everything that I recieved/ordered

Everything arrived "alive"

You will not see the royal gramma nor the sixline "yet" I ran out of containers so they get aclimated later...

Bob

Well for the most part, everything has worked out well... Everything has been placed in it's home and I've got some shots to share.... The only problems I've had are.. The blackcap baslet did not make it ( L.A. says they will reship after the 14 day warrenty draws to an end..) I also lost the pepermint shrimps ( powerhead ate them ).... Everything else is live but I'm not sure of the leather coral that I recieved and put in the 12gal Nano Cube ( pictures below ) It's only been 24 hours I know but everything else has opened up very nicely... Let me know what you guys think... L.A. is saying to wait and see how it does... If it fails to open ( My button polyps have not opened either ), they will replace it as well... Now for the pics...

The leather coral first...

For some reason, photobucket did not upload the rest of my pics... I'll get those in a bit... But anyone got advice on the leather..???

Bob

Bob, I don't have much exp. w/leathers in my own tanks, but I used to work at an lfs, & I found it funny how they all responded differently once acclimated. If I had one that looked like yours, I would experiment w/sm powerhead placement, giving it indirect but higher flow. Sometimes this worked in the store. Wish I had some better advice, but in the store this always helped w/new leathers of so many dif. species. I think you're ok on lighting, but you might also try moving it up a few inches & see if it responds to that.

Thanks for the advice.... It's hard to tell by the pics but I've got a maxjet1200 linked to a Hydor that does put flow on the leather... Not all the time you understand but enough to blow the mucus around it.... The polyps seem to have "wanted" to extend but go back in... Do you think that a shot with a turkey baster might be in order..???

Bob

Bob....my leather sits about midway up and gets moderate flow..enough to keep the tentacles constantly moving. In the pic below, you are looking from the right side. The Hydor flow is above to the right and flow is coming towards you from across the other side along the back:

You just got your leather and it needs time to acclimate. If it doesn't open soon, move it around and see if it prefers either more light or higher/lower flow. SH
