Stigmata Blenny

I got lucky at my LFS yesterday. I've been looking for this fish for a LOOOONNNNGGG time. I've seen them called Tiger Blenny's, but my LFS had them listed as Sitgmata Blenny (I think that's a cooler name). They said it came from Vanuatu. Anyone know the scientific name? TIA!

That's a cool looking fish ... alot of very colorful fish come out of Vanuatu, IMO. (Most of my liverock is from there too, very porous and alot of deep red corraline.)

That fish is cool how much did you pay? Also what kind of fish is behind that one that has blue dots?

beautiful fish, i'm going to keep my eye out for one of those... anyone have any idea on the care level they need vs other blennys

They are the ones that live off the the coral polyps if I am correct! My LFS for shipped 3 of them from the Vanuatu order aswell but they are all really skinny and not doing so well...good luck with it...Keep us posted...

I hate to change the subject but how has your Interruptus angel been in your reef?

They have been model citizens. I have a captive bred bonded pair and they leave all of my corals alone. My tank is mainly SPS, with some LPS.

If you meant the blenny, stigmatas are reef-safe. I bought one the other day and panicked after I got home, thinking he was a leopard blenny (E. brevis), which are the fish you're thinking of (SPS eaters). C. stigmaticus are herbivores. Mine came from Vanuatu, and was VERY skinny, but seems to be fattening up a bit now. Fun fish, he slept with my pistol shrimp last night - I guess he thinks he's a goby :D

Just picked me up one of these from LA. Should arrive on Friday so I'll update with pictures as soon as he shows up!

i've had many stigmata blennies, and they never seem to adjust to captivity very quickly or at all... thats a beautiful male, i hope he does well for you.

I had one a few years back... He only ate the thin film of algae on the glass and eventually starved to death. He was also quite a jerk to my watchman goby while he was around. Awesome looking fish though.

Wow, I didn't even realize I just revived a thread from 7 years ago... Guess nobody likes these sweeeeeeet fish :)

All the research I did indicated the fish doesn't keep the striking colors when acclimated/relaxed.

Holy moly, you guys dug up an old thread of mine. That was also the case with mine. Once it got acclimated to my tank, it stayed dark most of the time. The only times the red stigmata lines appeared was when it was stressed.

It is definitely a unique looking and beautiful fish though.
