Still looking at the honeymoon situation

After looking at just about every resort in the Caribbean/Mexico/ and Latin America I think I found what I want. It's in Florida

Has anyone stayed here? or know anything about it. I have talked with the contact and it sounds great but I am always looking for an opinion that isn't getting paid.

Main drawback is that we would need to cook the majority of our meals. But we aren't bad cooks and I think I would enjoy ti so long as the place has a dishwasher.

Captiva is awesome! Nice place to relax! A little "touristy" but not near as bad as most vacation spots in Fl.! Pleanty of "alone" time if you want; walk on the beach, boating the works!

Oh yeah, you could take me and I could be your tour guide!

have you been?

where did you stay?

are the few restaurants there any good.

I like the idea of driving around my golf cart all the time

north captiva doesn't look like it could be that crowded at all really, whats your view on that.

Sanibel/Captiva/North Captiva has bee rebuilding since the 2004 Hurricane. Took the family to Sanibel last year and loved it. If you like to collect seashells, this is the place for you, rated #1 shelling beach in the country.

Reastaurants are great but a bit pricey, but the atmosphere is just perfect. Great sunsets as captiva faces west.

Hope you go. Here is a forum regarding the islands that you can ask people who live on the islands or those that go all the time about it.

Good luck

Thanks.

Looks like all we have to do is find the right house to rent and barter down the price some. Its the first suggestion for a honeymoon the fiance has liked. We both wanted private and quiet. I wanted a big space and she wanted to stay in the country. Florida came through for me.

If you don't mind me asking where did you stay and was it crowded? and were the beaches fairly empty?

Depends on when you go. Price will be able to tell you high season (spring) We went in August, hot away from the beach but not crowded at all.

When are you thinking of going? We stayed in a condo on sanibel

First week of June.

We are goign to rent a monster of a house on North Captiva simply because the small ones are crap. The house is will probably be big enough for 10 but it will just be us two.

We are looking to spend around $3K for lodging. Kinda high but its one of those things that matters more to us than the wedding, if only our parents thought the same way, we would be going to Europe or the Pacific Rim.

Did you cook a great deal of your meals ?

Naw we ate out most nights. As it gets closer I can tell you about some great restaurants, as the boards can also.

For a GREAT way to rent a house, go to www.vrbo.com perfect way to find a place

3k on captiva is on the low side for a week. Double that for a great house, 50% that for an average house

Seriously.

It seems the week I am looking for most people are considering a low to shoulder week. Plus most are giving a discount since there will only be two people using the house.

I already have a couple quotes for under $2500 and the houses have pool/hot tub and 3 stories with roof deck and a great kitchen. North captiva only has two restaurants. It's a separate island than captiva and sanibel

Got the price from the renter this weekend for that home.

the house rental rate for 2 guests for 7 nights starting June 3, 2007 would be $2860.00 + taxes $314.60= $3174.60

not bad concidering how large the house is. We could lose each other in that house. I would feel like a friggin king for a wekk in that bad boy.

I like your thinking Clark. That 5th floor is amazing.

Think I might try to get him to come down some. One renter told me that really is a shoulder season time and rentals can sometimes be had for less than usual. It rains a lot this time of year.

LOL if it rains just get in the hottub on the covered third floor balcony

Not like you will be spending much time outside anyway LOL
