Hello guys... im going to start a new system which will have approx of 400 gallons of water.... the main tank will have a dimensions of L72"xW36xH26". The tank will be house purely sps. The skimmer will be octopus xp-5000 and it will also run neozeo. I just want to ask for advise how to stock this tank with the following fish list:

3 yellow pyramid butterly
1 purple tang
1 yellow tang
1 powder blue tang
1 mustard tang
1 fowleri tang
1 dussumieri tang
1 copperband butterflyfish
1 regal angel
1 majestic angel
8 lyretail anthias
2 true percs
1 blenny
2 leopard wrasse

hope you guys can help me with this problem... thanks....

Powder blue last
Yellow and purple at the same time. Same with the angels.
I would add the copperband first because it is so delicate. This would give it a chance to establish some sort of dominance and would give you the chance to get him feeding aggressively before you add any competition

I would go:
Copperband and pyramid butterfly's
anthias
regal
blennies & wrasse
clowns
majestic
and then all the tangs at the same time.

I wouldn't even put in a copperband unless your planning on having a ton of aiptasia. These butterfly-fish have a very poor survival rates. Or if you do decide to get one try to get a specimen from Austrlia. People seem to have the best luck with them when they come from there. I love the rest of your list though, awesome fish selection.

Thanks SMOOTHIE, L8 2 RISE and ReefKeeper2009 for the suggestion... will definitely find a good copperband specimen... i hope i can have an eating copperband for my future tank... will follow your suggestion in how to stock my tank... thanks again...

As long as the copperband and other butterflys are first, you should be good. Try and get them from an LFS and watch them eat. Otherwise, try LADD. Also, I strongly suggest you put all the tangs in one go.

a change in stocking list of mine:

3 yellow pyramid butterly
1 purple tang
2 yellow tang ( can this achievable? will they fight or kill my purple tang?)
1 powder blue tang
1 mustard tang
1 fowleri tang
1 dussumieri tang
1 copperband butterflyfish
1 regal angel
1 majestic angel
1 flame angel
5 lyretail anthias (will lyretail anthias kill each other in long term?)
2 true percs
1 blenny
2 leopard wrasse

thanks again guys....

Hmm, I'm guessing that if anything the purple tank will attack them, but in a 400 gallon tank, you should be fine. Just shoot for equal sizes. As for the lyretails, just add 5 small females and one slightly larger female and you'll be fine. What some people do is just add one female lyretail, leave it in for a couple weeks, then add the 4 smaller lyretails, and the established, larger one will become male.

thanks L8 2 Rise for your quick reply... will denitely try to have more hyt... they are lovely... thanks

Ah, true, I read the post wrong. 292 gallons then, he/she should still be good with that though.

Not necessarily. Tangs and Genicanthus require tank length not gallons. For the tangs mentioned I would think an 8 foot tank minimum.

Ok, now I see where you're coming from. For the Yellows and purple, I think you'll be fine as I have found Zebrasoma to do fine in tanks on the smaller end for tangs. I also think you'll be fine with the powder blue. For the dussumieri, fowleri, and mustard tangs, I think it's pushing it, however if you manage to get your hands on some smaller ones, you should be good for at least a while. Some will argue that when buying a fish for a tank, you want to shoot for longetivity and keeping it in that tank, which for the most part I agree with, but with these fish, if you start small, chances are they won't reach full size in an aquarium, and if they do, it probably won't be any time soon. Also, this tank is 6 foot 8 inches diagonally, and 7 feet from top to bottom diagonally which gives you a little more room, and though the width isn't necessarily what you're shooting for, the width wil help you on this tank. Just shoot for lots of open swimming room. I really like the dimensions on this tank, though I would make it a foot longer and a little taller. I look forward to seeing it.

Other than the dussumieri and fowleri I think your stock list is pretty good. A dussumieri would outgrow your tank very quickly if you treat it right.

yeah guys you have a point that my stocking list quite overstocked.... ill stick with dussemeri and fowleri due to the fact that its quite cheap here getting it compared with other fishes... dussemeri is only $5 here and fowleri cost me $25... so i can get small specimen easily... around 2-3 inches....

this is my updated stocking list:

3 yellow pyramid butterly
1 purple tang
2 yellow tang ( can this achievable? will they fight or kill my purple tang?)
1 powder blue tang
1 mustard tang
1 fowleri tang
1 dussumieri tang
1 copperband butterflyfish
1 flame angel
5 lyretail anthias (will lyretail anthias kill each other in long term?)
2 true percs
1 blenny
2 leopard wrasse

as of today i have 1 mustard, 1 PT, and 1 flame angel. my question for now is will 2 yellow tang feasible in this tank? or will the 2 yellow tang beat my PT to death? thanks

im from philippines. Yeah livestock here are quite cheap. Challice colony cost only 2 dollars. But equipments are quite costly.
