Stocking suggestions

Hi all,

I'm currently having a 7x3x2 (314 gal + 180 gal sump) built and I'm looking to stock it with several small cryptic fish along with a regal tang and anthias.

The stocking list is as follows:

2 clowns (gotten)
1 regal tang (gotten)
1 dwarf angelfish
9 lyretail anthias
1 sunburst anthias
1 lubbock's fairy wrasse* (gotten )
2 naoko fairy wrasse
1 coral goby
1 lawnmower blenny (gotten)
1 black cap basslet
1 yellow assessor
1 randall's assessor

Is this overstocking? Any other options? feedback would be great!!

On the dwarf angel I'd recommend a potters. I love those fish. Just get it small and you will have a better chance at it leaving corals alone

Flame Hawkfish and more Wrasses. Will this be a reef or FOWLR tank. You have so many options with that size tank. IMO, you are nowhere near medium stocked.

By cryptic, you mean fish that may like to hide a lot? You could get a big group of blue gudgeon dartfish. Would add some nice blue color. You could get a group of Possum wrasses. Maybe a pink streak wrasse. Since it's so large you could get a group of royal grammas. They should have enough room to leave eachother alone.

You could get some damsels also. In a tank that large they won't be as mean as when they are cramped up in smaller tanks. You can get a whole lot of gobies and blennies. You are bound by nothing essentially. Especially if you want lots of small fish.

I also LOVE how groups of bluegreen chromis look when paired with big groups of anthias. The turquoise and the pink/orange look amazing together.

I'm very jealous. This is exactly the type of tank I want. Huge, but only stocked with tons and tons of small fish.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Sorry I forgot to mention that the tank will be a mixed reef, and @bat21 you are 100% correct, I'm aiming for a tank where you only will a small number of open swimmers at first glance, but if you sit or look closely you'll be rewarded!!! Sorta like where's wally but with fish haha

ok, so sand dwellers like shrimp gobies are good for that. green clown gobies tend to stay hidden and still, the yellow ones swim around more. cardinal fish stay in the open but they stay very very still, so it may take a minute to notice them. some scooter dragonets maybe, but not till the tank is established and full of pods. i have a whitespotted pygmy filefish and he can be tough to spot at times, defintiely would be in a huge tank, they can camouflage themselves depending on what's behind them, it's pretty cool.

Noooice, that filefish sounds like a good idea I'm also keen on a few sand sifting gobies, I'm on the fence about a hawkfish, mainly because I'm umming and arrring over shrimps

I think you need more medium/large size fish.
If I am you, I would put 2 more tangs/or 1 tang and 1 fox face.
I would put in at least 3 dwarf angels. Either there Flames or three fireball or Flameback angels. You will like their courtship and spawn.
Pt a pair of Madarin Dragonett. They are beautiful fish.
One mid size angel. My favorite is Regal angel.

I may go with a pair of watanabe angels and a regal, don't know what other tangs I'd put in there maybe a Ctenochaetus and/or zebrasoma complex

There is not a better yellow fish than the Yellow Tang. But it is common.
I like nice fish, beautiful color. I don't really care if a fish is common or not.

Chrysiptera parasema
Three of these will really light up a aquarium. There is no better blue/yellow IMO.
They are great community fish, and spawn all the time in my tank. I did not find them to be aggressive

You cannot go wrong with Watanabe pair and Regal angel (other than the fact that Regal angels are not easy fish to get to live in captivity). They are among my favorite fishes (but I have many favorites). I love to keep breeding units of fish.
I was at Petco today, was really tempted to get another female Watanabe, but 99.99 is just too much. That is even more expensive than DD price.

I was thinking of replacing the lyretail anthias with dispars, how many could I get into that tank before its too much?

You can get Lyretail to eat dry food. I am not sure about Disbars. This make it easier to feed multiple times a day

nice update with stocking atm;

2 occ. clowns
1 regal tang
1 lubbock's fairy wrasse*
1 lawnmower blenny
1 orange shoulder tang
1 lipstick naso
1 citron goby

anyone have any other suggestions?

Hey guys bit of an update, tank has been delayed due to removalist damaging the first beast and unfortunately have had a few losses, but the positive is that a stocking list that focuses on small fish and inverts has been prioritized and any interesting suggestions will be considered and stocked if feasible!

I'm looking at trying a yellow tilefish again, but any other fish suggestions would be greatly appreciated
