The bungee wraps are great. Still playing with them but first I've got to fix the leak. I'm really trying to avoid pulling the bulkhead but that may be my only option.

so when are planning to add water?
I'm sticking with my Thanksgiving timeline. Actually, it would have happened this weekend if not for the !@#$%^&^&*&^%&$#@@% bulkhead leak. Not that I'm irritated by it or anything.

You really shouldn't surpress your true feelings like that, you could get an ulcer. Just let your feelings flow, much like the water from the bulkhead, and you will feel better. :spin1:

I'll see if I can find a picture somewhere. Right now, it's pretty much stripped except for the front facia. I figure that the best way to rewire and replumb things would be to remove anything that would make access more difficult.

Is it a sch 40 bulkhead? I have had sch 40 bulkheads leak in the past and now I only use sch 80

Thanks for all who have been following this thread. I've more or less decided to replace the bulkhead. Now for the fun part. I've drained the 'test' water from the overflow and can now see all of the detritus that collects at the bottom of the overflow. This was pretty enlightening actually and I now wonder if the overflow is another place for organic detritus to collect.
I now have to figure out a way to clean out that detritus since, if it's left in there, I'll never be able to properly seat the new bulkhead. Moving the tank is not an option for this effort and I have very limited access to the overflow.
My plan is to dump a gallon of vinegar (my new best friend) into the overflow and let it sit for a few days. I will then siphon out as much as possible and then remove the overflow (preferably over a bucket to contain whatever I can't siphon out). I'll then do my best to scrub (from a distance) the bottom of the overflow hopefully removing all of the detritus.
Any thoughts on this incredibly lousy solution???

The bulkhead didn't start leaking until after the teardown. I think I must have jostled it when I was pulling out the sump. Best laid plans....:headwallblue:
if you remove the bulkhead then you are left with a chamber with a hole at the bottom. Place a bucket under the hole, place a pump in the bucket with a hose going to your sink. Get your garden hose and run water into the chamber, then continuously pump the water from the bucket to the sink. Run water continuously until clean.
