That is a very nice acro colony there, and coloring up quick, should turn out real good looking. I also had issues with my echinata, I got a Hawkins at prop that was two pieces, the bigger one is doing ok now, the smaller one almost completely bleached but seems to have stopped and is starting to reverse the process. I think they are just a bit more finicky being a thinner skinned type. With how quick that acro colony colored up you should be fine. I am finding a new love for acros now, especially the one I got from mr porter at prop. =)

Yup. I've seen this before. I think the echinata title just stuck. That said, I'm the worlds worst with scientific names. Just tell me its a Strawberry Shortcake and I'm happy. This is especially true for some of the more difficult to pronounce latin names. See 'Chesterfieldensis' above. There is just no reason that this name needs five syllables.

I have to say that Uniquecorals is now one of my 'go to' sites for corals. They came with top flight packaging, look exactly how they appeared on the website and are as big as promised. While pricey, sometimes it's worth the extra money to get the best quality.

If I can keep the darn thing alive, it'll definitely show up at the PROP auction at some point. They are supposedly relatively slow growers but opinions vary.

Here's an interesting oddity. Right now, my display tank appears to be completly devoid of any nuisance algae or cyano. My small 10 gallon fuge is growing Chaeto and cyano very rapidly. I don't have any algae grazers in the display so I can't figure out why I'm not seeing any nuisance algae there. The only thing I can think of is that the flow is very high in the display thus discouraging the nuisance algae and cyano. Any thoughts?

your fuge is working properly, growing Chaeto and consuming available nutrients, leaving the DT low in nutrients, resulting void of algae

early on your bioload is small so excess nutrients are consumed with relatively small amounts of Chaeto, however as your livestock with resulting bioload increases your fuge capabilities will have to grow to keep pace with demand

Spotted a small aptasia in the tank this afternoon. I'm trying to figure out where it came from but that's probably a waste of time. This time, I'm going to be aggressive about killing it early and often. I know there are worse pests in the hobby, but these guys drive me nuts.

Same here. I pitched a 2lb piece of rock that had a pair of those bastards on board. I been feeling better and better about that choice ever since!
