Hello reef central! QQ

I'm currently building a Sump/fuge setup that will have a separate tank and pump for return fed by gravity though a bulkhead, Mainly for the extra water volume and the ability to house more than double the amount of water should the power go out and any siphon happen.

I was going to do just the drill Mod , But then I stumbled across this nifty device... http://pentairaes.com/foot-valves.html. Has anyone had any experience with these? I know the spring ones probably wouldnt work with normal hobby pumps but this ball type one?

Don't use any sort of check valve or valve with parts that are supposed to move independently of your intervention---you can turn a gate that will move, with force; but a valve that's gotten gunky might decide not to work when it most needs to, without human intervention. Meaning---they clog.

Either keep a hose from a pump sitting in water A from touching the surface of water B, or put a hole in the line, aka a 'siphon break.' Those work reliably. Valves are not so trustworthy.
