Storing water outside

So my question is , is it ok to store RO/DI And saltwater out side under shade in the Az heat?

I would of course let the water cool down before using it.

Thanks.

Many of us store water in a garage, so I would think as long as it's a food grade container that won't leach anything in heat or direct sunlight it should be fine.

how long are you storing it there for? I personally wont use it after 3-4 weeks. No magic to that number or reason why. Don't think it goes bad or anything, just paranoid something might happen to it...
oh and yes, food grade is a must, imo, for storage.

hope that helps

JMHO but the water will be heated to over 100 degrees during the summer. It will take some time to cool it down. Moreover, unless you keep it pretty tightly covered, you'll have to deal with significant evaporation. I really don't know enough about the chemistry to have a scientific opinion, but this doesn't sound like a solution for success.

I'd suggest a smaller storage system that can be kept indoors and climate controlled. I use a 30 gallon container that is next to the tank (not the prettiest approach but in my house, it works).

It's interesting. I lived in the northeast for a long time and kept my top off and water change water in my basement which was always at around 65 degrees and had a very successful tank. Since I've been in AZ, I've struggled. I wonder if that's part of the problem. Then again, it's probably my black thumb.

I just wanted to get the containers out of the way in the living room, I only have two 5 gallon containers.

Mine are actually in my laundry room (which would be a garage, if a previous homeowner hadn't finished the garage) and unfortunately is not air conditioned. It is definitely not as hot as outside, but it is warmer than the house. Probably gets up to the high 80's, maybe low 90s in there. I store RODI water, and salt water, in a 55 gallon food-grade plastic barrel, with a cover, and evaporation has been a non-issue.

I have two one gallon jugs of RODI that I keep in the freezer during the summer months, that I throw in the barrels before a water change that bring the temp down nicely. I then just re-freeze the 1 gallon jugs.

I would love to store it closer to the tank (I have a pump and 25 foot vinyl hose attached to my water mixing station, and simply pump it out to my ATO or tank as needed) but water barrels in the living room was not approved by the already quite understanding wife.

So I just talked to the RODI tech at my work and he says there isnt a problem storing water outdoors. Still makes me a little weary, so maybe just not too long outside.

I do water treatment for a living at a Local microchip company and after talking to the RODI/ Ultra Pure water Tech here I decided to build my own mixing station in the garage. Ill let you know how it goes as we near the hotter months.

If it's sealed, there's no issue besides heat. It will take a while to cool down from as hot as it will get out there. You can speed it up by using a powerhead or something when you bring it back in, but expect it to take several hours.
