Strand Anemome behavior after adding nutrients

Hi,

I have had my tank up for about 6 months and just began adding LR to it - about 100 lbs to a 150 g tank so far.

I add chems every month, including:

Kent Marine Essential Elements
Kent Marine ZooPlex
Kent Marine Pro Buffer dHK
Kent Marine Ph-Buffer
Purple Up

I just started the Purple Up today...

After I added all of the chem at the same basic time, all o f my Anenomes started to retract - more than I had ever seen before. My carpet had a white tissue like substance come out of his mouth.

They are starting to come back to normal, but I wanted to make sure I was not doing something wrong.

Thanks!!

I would avoid most or all of those additives. The Essential Elements are uncontrolled dosing, and a bit dangerous. The pH buffer products can lead to nasty water parameter problems. Purple Up contains a few ingredients I would avoid.

What are the alkalinity, pH, and calcium values for the tank?

PH is good (8.1) - I need to get test kits for the Calcium and Alkalinity - I will check them out asap!!

Thanks!

Shawn

As stated uncontrolled dosing, the purple up and essential elements have alot of the same ingredients which could led to overdosing.

I agree and have seen effects such as yours due to trace element poisoning. I recommend doing a fairly large water change ASAP and stop concerning yourself with everything except calcium and alkalinity. IMO, the rest are a waste of time and money, especially since the results you will obtain will be equivalent or better without them (plus no real risk of overdose). Stick to water changes for the trace element replenishment and additives for calcium and alk.
