strange noise

Hello guys, last night I was watching my tank,and suddenly I heard like a snapping sound . like (snap snap). I heard it today too.What it could be? any idea? thanks

could be either a Mantis Shrimp or a Pistol Shrimp. If it was just a couple of snaps then it IME its probably a Pistol Shrimp where as a Mantis Shrimp makes rapid noises

I heard the same noise in my tank one night. It actually woke me up. I got up all excited and was ready to search the entire tank until I found my "hopeful" mantis. I searched and searched while still hearing this snapping sound. After looking for a while I looked up right in front of my face and one of my snails was moving in the current with the shell tapping on the glass. I was sad that I didn't have a Mantis to watch, but happy since I didn't have to tear apart the tank to get it out.

i agree, could be a snail on the glass, and also could be clown fish if you have any. I also have some snapping sounds come from my fuge, that only has a very big mythrax crab and a gorilla crab in it.

while most fingers will rightfully point to a mantis/pistol shrimp, it may be something else.

i have a pistol that does rapid fire in my tank...

at least i think it is a pistol...haven't seen him for a very long time....mind you have no hermits left either...but i have no pile of shell in any one particular spot either...

so i dont know...

Well guess is not a mantis cause i havent found anything dead, and have creatures that you mentioned like a possible subject to make that noise, clowns,snails, hermits, emerald crabs and shrimps.
