I have this green filmy stuff growing on my sandbed and on some rocks at the bottom of the tank that grows very similar to red cyano, but is very green and nothing is eating it...anyone have any idea what this might be and how to get rid of it. My ceriths devour red cyono but not this stuff. HELP!!!

What kind of lighting do you have? Flow? I dealt with that stuff a couple of years ago and it seemed to go away when I upgraded my lighting and added some phosphate removing media to my filter.

I have two 150watt 14k metal halides and two 130 watt actinic pc's and they were all replaced just over a month ago...water flow is pretty good..my sps is growing well.

Hmm, something's feeding the growth. If it's not a lighting or flow issue then I would have to say you have some hidden phosphates. Just my guess though... anyone else?

I would do a water change by siphoning out as much as you can and add some phospate remover. Do you have a DSB? You might want to siphon some of the surface.

Its strange I make every effort to reduce phospate. I use a significant amount of phozord resin and I have a reverse daylight algae scrubber/sump with a healthy crop of chaeto. I also do bi-weekly water changes with r/o di water and reef crystals salt. I have been using b-ionic almost daily...do you think that this could be the culprit?

what kind of salt? I was having the same problem when using a batch of oceanic - as did a multitude of others - but that was over a year ago

I was using DT's spraydried phyto then too - thought that might have had something to do with it too...

does it have air-pockets in it after it gets thick?
