Strange worm sighting

I just spotted a new and strange looking worm in the CHS tank. It came part way out of a rock and looked fairly large--like pencil sized. I only saw about three inches of it. It was grey and looked like an elephant's trunk in color. It looked mostly like a centepede, however, with rows of legs on either side if it. It was sure no standard bristle worm. It appeared to have an actual head, like the neck area was pinched and then a small, triangular head. It retracted into the rock very quickly when I flinched. No chance for pics even if I had a camera.

Does anyone have a good set of pics for marine worms? Especially those ones that grow to monster size and are problematic (anyone remember their name?).

Cheers

That sounds like the nasty coral eating type to me.

There was a thread in the main forums long ago about someone who was losing whole colonies, and stayed up one night & caught the worm eating his corals.

He had to break the whole tank down to get it.
It was living in his PVC rock rack and was 6 feet long!

Yeah. I remember that. I took the rock out and busted it up into rubble. Found three worms. Likely eunicid worms, hopefully the detrivores because I am sure there are others. Thanks for the replies
