I've had a small bta for several weeks now, and for the past week or so I noticed it seemed like something wrapped around its 'stalk' and it seemed to be getting kinda tight. This is my first nem so I thought maybe it was a wrinkle or some other part of his anatomy.
As for other symptoms (or lack thereof) - No signs of bleaching and he hasn't moved from his favorite rock. His color is still good - a deep plum purple, but his tentacles are kinda thin and retracted a bit. My params are all stable, he eats mysis like a champ, and his rock is pretty high to take advantage of the most light. I also haven't seen any other critters picking on him.
Today the nem looked pretty scraggly and beat up. I finally picked up his rock and used a turkey baster to try to blow off whatever was wrapped around it. Very strange - it almost seems like fish poop or algae or something got tangled around it! I snagged a piece in the baster so I could look at it - it didnt appear to be alive, like a worm or anything. In fact it almost looked like hemp.
He's pretty PO'ed right now at being manhandled and puffed at so he's hiding in his sock. Already though he's opening back up and clutching a piece of mysis he sucked in with him when I tortured him.
Could it just have been a belt too tight? Is that why he hasn't been filling out like he should?
