Hey i have a aga 180 72 by 24 by 24

i am goin to do a SPS tank with some clams and maybe a LPS or two.

my questions

i am going to use a mag 18 for the return and use 2 1inch sea swirls on the return lines! so i figure thats about 1200 gph give or take and thats all i can handle i only have 2 1inch bulkheads drilled!

1. so what tunze streams do you recomend i was think the 6100's w/ muticontroller!

THAT SAID,

2. SHOULD wait for the new controller to come out? is it more money? what are the better functions of the new controller?

3. also where should i mount these in the tank 1 at each end in the middle of the side glass? like all the way up or part way up?

4. AND last question, do i need a special mounting kit for a aga tank?

thanks alot Roger!

Nick

I will fight the Mag 18 idea- big heat producing pump and you don't need it. Use one 1" sea swirl, try to get an external air cooled pump instead- I like GRI. Use the two 6100's. Wait for the 7095, it is better and it is less than $50 more for a moonlight with 29 day lunar cycle, a new program which idles one pump while pulsing the other, touch pad programming instead of switches and knobs and intervals as short as one second instead of one minute at present. The mounting hardware is included now but you may want to get the magnet holders as an option. Placement in the back corners aimed toward the front just shy of the center.

hey great! why only 1 1inch sea swirl?

how much is then new controller and when does it come out exactly?

do i need to pre order this or what?

and wait what do you mean moonlight? where is that located?

thanks!

also hey will there be a kit like there is now with the new controller and the 2 6100's?

thanks!

Nick

hey also sorry one more what do those magnet things do? if i get those do i still need all that mounting brackets and stuff? or does the magnet just hold it in place? how much are they?

how high should i put these in the tank? towards the top of the water?

You will get plenty of flow from the Streams, Any return pump willl be far less energy efficient and produce far more heat so I would go with an air cooled pump or a very small submerse pump. You only need about 800gph for that tank in return from the sump. You will be much better off since you will have less heat and quieter overflows.

The 7095 is 2-3months away and I don't think anyone is taking preorders yet. It has a moonlight on the end of the photocell that is used for night mode. It is an LED.

There probably will be a new kit with the 7095 when the new catalog comes out at the ened of the year but kits are not there for any other purpose than to illustrate the possibilities, they are not discounted. The new controller is $215 or so.

The magnets replace the included mounting hardware. For a 180 you will need the smaller one which is $34. The pumps should be about 4-6" below the surface.

alright so maybe get 1 1 inch sea swirl run a smaller pump and then get the new kit w/ 2 6100's and the new muticontroller!

right that will be good?

hey is there a place i can read about the new muticontroller or no?

thanks alot!

Nick

alright great

hey do you knwo about how much the new kit will cost?

how much is that old muticontroller?

oh yeah so where should i mount this muticontroller to take advantage of the moon light?

i plan on having 3 LED moonlights in the canopy! should i still mount the controller somewhere to use the extra on or is that not need?

thanks!

Nick

The controller will only run the one included moonlight and I don't know how other moonlights will affect the sensor. The current controller is $166 I expect the kit will go up accordingly. The multicontroller needs to be mounted in a dry place the moonlight is at the end of a 7ft cord.

ok thanks!

i think you misunderstood me! haha!

i am going to run 3 moonlights seperate of the contorller on there own system!

should i still use the moon light with the controller? or should i just scrap the 3 moons i will install and use the one on the controller ONLY?

thanks!

Hey is the wall behind the tnak a good place to mount it? or maybe a couple a feet away from the tank on the wall?

thanks!

Nick

Just so long as it will stay dry, water damage isn't covered under warranty. If water splashes there don't put it there. I think you could use just the controller moonlight, it won't light up the whole tank but the moon is very dim and not a way to view things.

alright maybe put it in the middle of the tank?

so does this thing come on when you set it or when the controller wants it too?

this sounds like a cool new controller what is the 29 day lunar cycle exactly?

thanks for all the help!

Nick

hey one more quick question,

i am going to go with a 1 or 2 inch sand bed should i have any problems?

so let me know if the sand will be ok? wiht all that flow i dont
know? i will use carbi-sea arganiate

thanks!

Nick

hey after reading i will be fine with the 6100s right or should i go smaller?

i want good flow so you think if i put them each in the back corner hitting the front glass justbefore the middle i should be fine? even with the sea swirl?

thanks again!

Nick

Yes, the 6100 for SPS the 6000 for LPS- choose the pump based on the majority of what you will keep.

alright thanks!

will i be fine with the sand? i mean i know it will displace some what.

OH YEAH BIG ONE HERE, how far away should SPS be from these pumps? they will be mounted in the back corners facing the front center glass like you said!

my rock will be 2 islands one on each side kind of like this,

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=405673

there will be room about 10 or 11 inches above the rock

and about 3 ro 4 inches from the rock to the back glass and 4 to 5 inches from the front glass and about 3 inches from the side!

so let me know how far away i should mount acros !

thanks!

Nick

To start the acros will need to be at about 12-16" or the flow run at low speed. Eventually full power at 6" won't be a problem for high flow acropora.

ok so basically just run it at lower speed at slowly increase it to normal?

thanks!

Nick
