Stuck in slave mode

after attempting to upgrade my WWD, it is stuck between red and the light grey color, meaning slave upgrade.

I have turned it off, restarted holding both the mode and set, just the mode and just the set. The pump still just blinks in slave. The pump is not pumping no matter what I do.

Please advise.

Thanks

Hi Mark,

It sounds like your WWD didn’t upgrade properly. It could have missed some data during the upgrade process or not re-flashed properly. To fix this you can attempt to do the upgrade again. Simply follow the same procedure as you did before. Make sure that your master and slave WWDs are as close as possible to each other before you start the upgrade procedure again. If you try again and you get the same error code, contact our technical support, Dave over there has seen this happen and can help you out.

They were back to back and I tried it a second time. I guess I'll hope that "third time is the charm"

Thanks

We've got another person in Sacramento with the same problem. Please let us know how this goes, and perhaps Dave can post some more info? I've done a few upgrades now without problem, but given that more than a few people have experienced this in our area, I hold my breath everytime, and have bene giving people a disclaimer before flashing thier drivers.

So far I have personally flashed over 60 of these this month and not once did I experience a malfunction. One time I did get a communication error but worked like a charm after the reflash. The only one I saw that had a problem, was sent in and the controller itself had went bad. I do not believe it had anything to do with upgrading rather it was just a coincidence and happened to fail during the upgrade process. When I get any of the ones that failed in and checked out I will post more info on this after conferring with EcoTech engineering.

NOTE- When I do the flash upgrade I actually have each controller within a foot or 2 of each other to ensure good communication between the 2 units.

I've held both units in my hands, almost touching for the upgrades I've done. No problems yet, but then you've flashed a few more than me.

Great, now both of my pumps are stuck in slave mode. Is there a code to reset them? :(

Ah that sucks Mark. I did my first attempt of the driver update. It didn't go well as the box just lit red and any attempt to reflash doesn't work as the it seem my box has the new firmware and won't take any reflash.

Stuck in red light mode and to scare to do my other 2 vortech as I don't want to go to 0-2. Going email/call support tomorrow.

To correct this you must re-program the board by unplugging the unit, holding down mode and set, plug the unit back in, and continue to hold mode and set for 10 seconds or until the unit toggles between red and white.

A red LED means that the upgrade process has initiated but not finished. Trying a few times is the best way to correct this.

We have done hundreds of upgrades and have not experienced this error unless drivers were not close enough or in some cases the upgrade doesn't work perfectly the first time. By trying again we have always corrected this problem except in the one case mentioned above.

Thanks, Mine is stuck in red and white flashing modes.

So if my unit is stuck in that mode and I have nothing to reprogram it with, how do I get it out from red and white flashing mode? Isn't there a way that I can clear the memory? I just want them to spin again.

mpoletti and anyone else having problems with re-flashing your pumps- please email me at sales@ecotechmarine.com and I'll put you in touch with our head electrical engineer to walk you through the process.

Once we figure out why you are having the problem you are we'll post to let people know what was wrong.

Unfortuantely in my case, I can set the unit to red and white blinking mode by holding down the mode and set button and powering the unit up. The problem is the master Gen2 unit won't process the flash as it validated that my unit already has the new firmware. Yet my box light solid red everytime.

I'd email the support dept just moment ago.

I just updated three of them and one of them won't come out of upgrade/slave mode. I'll try the steps you mentioned above. This happened to be a unit that was initially running in slave mode, could that be a possible contributing factor?

Ok, this was pretty weird!

I held the Mode button on the one that would only blink red/white for about ten seconds and it started blinking red/yellow as if it was the upgrade master. I then held the Mode and Set buttons on the one I had already upgraded successfully and powered it up. It came up red, then went to red/white blinking in upgrade slave mode. I then held the Set button on the one blinking red/white and it went to blinking red/green/red/blue as if it had changed back to the upgrade master and the one that had been blinking red/yellow started blinking blue/white. After a couple of minutes it completed just as before but this time they both came up working OK.

Since I have been doing the upgrades daily for the past couple weeks, I have had 2 or 3 that did not upgrade successfully the first time. Going back I distinctly remember at least one of them was in slave mode prior to upgrading. All I did was clear the memory and reprogram it without a hitch.
I do not know if being in slave mode has an effect but I doubt it does. Any and all controllers I now program I have a habit of clearing the memory first then programming. Only takes a couple extra seconds but since I started doing this I have yet to have a glitch.
